This article should stand beside other "greats" like Pilgrims Progress and In His Steps!

It served to remind me of one thing I heard a long time ago...something about ignoring the "elephant in the living room" when one is in denial of this or that.

But just try to ignore an invading army of tiny ants! An elephant never stole my food, ruined my picnic, got into my sugar bowl or invaded my home.

We may trick ourselves into thinking that WE can take care of the ants, but they are much smarter than we give them credit for! And, its the little things that wreck our lives, our homes, our marriages, and our children.

This brings back a memory of a girl's dorm party (for girl's only) I went to in college (believe it or not) which, of course, was many decades ago and I mean quite a few decades. It was a "Come as you are not." party in which we all wore costumes or something unusual and creative...obviously something we were not. I remember coming as "Wonder Woman" who was a very popular comic book and TV character then. But the one I remember the most was the girl who came as an ant hill. Yes, an ant hill! She wore a carboard tent with ants painted on it and an army helmet on her head. She won the prize for the most original costume of the night at the "Come as you are not party." An "ant hill" she was definitely not!

But this did get our attention. However, unlike the ant attack you mention this was right in our face and obviously there to notice.

Real ants can sort of sneak up on you. They find a way into our house every spring so we have to find a way to exterminate them. I am not an ant lover for sure.

I hope there is an added analogy here somewhere. Thanks for the post..it made me remember and reflect.

How easy to see the elephant, trying to move out of it's way when at the same time we may not even notice the ants crawling up our pant leg to bite. What will bring us to our knees, cause us to be immobilized, will be those ants that we didn't notice until we are running for the garden hose because elephants don't fit up our pant leg. At least not unnoticed!

    Woo Hoo!! Love it!

    It packed a whallop!

  14. That was excellent! I love the elephant-ant analogy. It's true. There is no problem too big or too small for God.

I'm confused. Sharks are as big as elephants and bite people, and grubs are as small as ants and don't bite? Why do we Christians keep on insisting on using these dumb analogies? They simply arent intellectually convincing. However they are very powerful tools (like parables) for people with little understanding.
