Sure it makes for better food, but it makes for a bad exegesis...
For what mortal has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? ~ Deuteronomy 5:26
If you're not prepared to risk your very life for your "enemy" you have no right to speak to him of love. ~ Daughter
Many say they are called... but I am pretty convinced that with many of them it was the wrong number. ~ Project Peter

If God had been after the savor of the wood, there would have been no need for the ram or the lamb.
If the wood was all God cared about then I guess poor Isaac wouldn't have been saved...Obviously its the sacrifice that is important in scripture..the focus is always on that, not on the wood, other wise God would simply have them burn wood.
Anyway, coming back to reality here..image if everyone simply lived on wood for flue..how long before all the trees would be gone?Trees don't exactly grow fast. Then what? We would have to look for another source to use to survive on or many would die.
"People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; We drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; We drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson
The derail of the OP to the current discussion is something to behold.
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.

Maybe the wood was just a shadow of what was to come...that the ultimate sacrifice of sins was the the Son Of God Jesus dying on a piece of wood. The cross itself is just that...a cross...we don't bow to a cross....when we lay our lives down at the foot of the cross...we are laying down our lives and bowing to Jesus Christ on the cross...not the cross itself.
In Christ's Love
That seems to be happening alot on thread lately...
But if you think about it, when two people are talking do they even stay on topic very long? no..cause one thing leads to another. This is normal for us humans...Its actually going against our nature to stay on topic which is why the moderators are exhausted trying to always keep us on topic...
At any rate if we take the topic to its logical conclusion we have this...yes man started out using wood, it wasn't enough..so God having said to subdue the earth...they tried other resources and eventually discovered oil and its many uses. Was God surprised about this...no He wasn't. Are oil spills a fulfillment some part of Revelation? No...but why not? Well because a ton of other events in Revelation hasn't happened yet! (looking at it from a future point of view). Can we randomly pick out things in the bible and apply it to something happening now in the world? No, that is an abuse of scripture.
So what it all boils down to this is...we are fallible human beings and yet once again messed up which once again shows our short coming. Men died on that oil rig...Animals and sea creatures will die too. Only a tiny part of the ocean is affected by this compared to the rest of it but the lively hood of many will be ruined...for those people and their families they need our prayers...along with the ones that lost loved ones on the rig. And I see nothing wrong with praying and asking the Lord to help out in this oil spill either...in fact I have been praying about it. The whole thing was done to start with in effort to help our country be more independant from foreign countries which is a good thing. It was done to help us out in the long run. It was an accident ..nothing more.
God bless

this thread is cool
Has anyone confirmed that this disaster was an accident? You know it is just hard to believe that something ignited a spark that deep in the ocean to cause such a disaster. I mean honestly how can that happen? It has never occurred before, and it just seems a bit to coincidental. You know someone could have done this on purpose to shift the value of land based oil wells up considerably. If public outcry over this incident became so loud, it would make the value of Middle East oil irreplaceable.
Some oil spill events from Monday, May 10, 2010
By The Associated Press (AP) – 4 hours ago
Events May 10, Day 21 of a Gulf of Mexico oil spill that began with an explosion and fire on April 20 on the drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, owned by Transocean Ltd. and leased by BP PLC, which is in charge of cleanup and containment. The blast killed 11 workers. Since then, oil has been pouring into the Gulf from a blown-out undersea well at about 210,000 gallons per day.
HOW CAN THEY PLUG THE GUSHER?
Top hats and junk shots are on the list of possible next steps as BP, casting about after a 100-ton containment box failed, settles in for a long fight to stop its uncontrolled oil gusher a mile under the Gulf of Mexico. Engineers at BP PLC were wrestling with a shopping list of ways to plug the well or siphon off the spewing crude, including a smaller containment box, dubbed a top hat, and injecting shredded rubber and other debris into the well as a stopper, called a junk shot.
SANDBAG DROP
Helicopters were dropping large sandbags in Louisiana to try to protect the Lafourche Parish marshes from the massive oil slick. The spill began creeping farther west of the Mississippi River last week. About a dozen Louisiana National Guard soldiers affixed straps to one-ton sandbags to ready them for pickup. About 300 sandbags are expected to be used as a makeshift boom to protect the coast.
COST SO FAR
BP — which is responsible for the cleanup — said Monday the spill has cost it $350 million so far for immediate response, containment efforts, commitments to the Gulf Coast states, as well as settlements and federal costs. The company did not speculate on the final bill, which most analysts expect to run into tens of billions of dollars.
SPILL AMOUNT
An estimated 3.9 million gallons of oil have spilled since the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon. At that pace, the spill would surpass the 11 million gallons spilled in the Exxon Valdez disaster by Father's Day.
WETLANDS
Battered by hurricanes, weakened by erosion and flood-control projects, the sprawling wetlands that nurture Gulf of Mexico marine life and buffer coastal cites from storm surges now face another stern test as a monster oil slick creeps ever closer. About 40 percent of the nation's coastal wetlands are clumped along southern Louisiana, directly in the path of oil that was still gushing Monday from a ruptured underwater well. Roughly 3.5 million gallons has escaped in the three weeks since an oil rig explosion, and some is bearing down on the marshes as workers rush to lay protective boom.
WATERMEN
For watermen across the Gulf Coast, waiting is now a way of life. Waiting to see where the slick will land. Waiting for crab and shrimp zones to reopen. Waiting to make some money. Many wait all day in hopes of being loaded up with boom to keep oil out of untainted waters, only to leave without work.
BP's INFLUENCE
With millions of dollars invested in campaign donations and an all-star lobbying team, BP executives could give an advanced class in how to build influence in Washington. But with millions of gallons of leaking oil bearing down on Gulf Coast beaches and bayous, they could also teach how to lose it. Even pro-oil Republicans are demanding answers. At least for the moment, it appears that whatever clout BP has accrued, the oil company is unlikely to get delicate handling from lawmakers investigating the oil rig disaster when oversight hearings begin this week on Capitol Hill.
SHAREHOLDER SUIT
A BP shareholder has filed suit against the corporation's executives because of the offshore rig disaster that led to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Filed in federal court in New Orleans on Friday, the lawsuit by Pennsylvania resident Katherine Firpo accuses BP PLC of ignoring safety issues on rigs such as the Deepwater Horizon. And the suit accuses BP of pursuing cost-cutting measures at the expense of safety, while lobbying authorities to decrease safety regulation.

Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
My understanding has always been its very dangerous work..oil is flammable for one thing...
I found an article that will hopefully explains things better:
Dangers of oil drilling jobs
What I heard is they hit a pocket of methane...I think that is what they said and that set off the explosion.

We only see what they want us to see: 200,000 PLUS gallons of oil a day! Unprecedented disaster? more like 400,000 plus gallons a day. God has just begun judgment, he blessed this nation now we've kicked him out of the country, how would you feel if every time you went out into the public just to hear people use your Sons name being used as a cuss word, his wrath is building, just wait until he pours it out during the great tribulation..
Jude
Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
Honestly Jude, this can't be hidden or lied about either..not when so many who worked daily on the sea are watching closely...very closely. And many even out there helping to try to clean it up..so they can fish and make the money they need to support their families. There are too many to tell everyone to hush up about it. Plus anyone can fly over that area and video tape it...there is another thread on here of an individual that did just that. This is just too big and too visible to be hidden or down played.
btw I rarely ever hear people using Christ's Name in Vain ..its usually God's. Not that, that is any better, but I think the mention of Jesus' Name in any fashion, people don't want to hear because it reminds them of Him. Whereas 'God' is a generic name that is used in almost every religion in the world and can mean anything. Wiccan's have gods, pagan's have gods, Islam has a god, and so forth. I do not know if people correct 'God' to the Christian God when they say that actually. We do because to us, He is the only God. But if a Muslim hears it, he thinks of Allah, etc...

I have a solution for America's problems ie: Tornado's, hurricane's, 911's, border problems with Mexico, financial collapse's and oil spills, ect! Only three (3) words:
"HANDS OF ISRAEL"![]()
"The Lord has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling." (Psalm 132:13)
