Circular Reasoning: The Bible says it is true.

Well, what comes from the scripture is what we know about christianity, right? Meaning that what Christians believe is true ( if interpreted correctly through the Holy Spirit.) Like the Bible says God is love and do everything in love. therefore If we as christian display it, and they see it and your living proof. Then they believe there is a God. because of scripture this all started. In short writing I think that would be the power display by the Word? Cause if you truly believe in God then you believe the Bible is true. And that means that what God does is why I can know the bible is true!?

Xel'Naga, what would be the best way, in your opinion, for me to check out if these sources are actually true? I am glad you brought up this topic because I always based that the Bible was true based on the facts of these "experts", but how do i know they are actually correct...you have got me thinking!
It's unfortunately easier said than done. Something like the dead sea scrolls, for instance, would require getting a copy of them. Most other things would be "double checking" what others have said, as you study the material they have referenced. There really isn't all that much wrong with beliefs on the authority of others, it's when we start adopting beliefs solely on the authority of others, assimilating them without question, that we encounter problems.

You are right with the implication that Christianity (like any other religion) is prone to becoming 'infected' and corrupted by other means of idealism. But it is quite simple my friend, if anything does not line up with the teachings of the Apostles or Christ, if anything contradicts such... it is therefore not of Christianity in which God intended it to be. None of us are smart enough to figure God out, therefore God must reveal himself. This is where - Muhammad, Narnak, Gautama, Joseph Smith and Jesus Christ come into the picture. Do not follow or put your faith in something just because your parents or someone else tells you to. TEST EVERY LIMIT in the pursuit of truth.
My tests have led me to Jesus Christ, that we can trust him and him alone to reveal God accurately. In concerns with The Holy Bible; is it reliable as a historical document? Well read on...
Whenever I study any book which is claiming Historical relevance (whether it be the Koran, Hindu Vedas etc...) I go through five basic tests of evaluation: For example.
The Holy Bible -
a.) Archaeological Evidence - Are the place names etc... Historical or not? i.e - Narnia vs. Jerusalem.
b.) Robust Internal Contradiction - Is there major contradiction within the New Testament Gospels? NO. There is no major contradiction.
c.) Manuscript Evidence - Is there any manuscript evidence which can support the version read presently? YES. Over 5,200 Greek manuscript evidence dating from the era of Jesus. ALL pointing to several main pertaining conclusions about Jesus Christ of Nazereth; Jesus lived a sinless life. Taught ethical teachings. Claimed to be God in Human form and then proved this by being crucified and resurrecting on the third day thereafter.
d.) Literary Style - "Once upon a time in the land of Middle Earth" vs. "Jesus Christ went here, ate this, done this". The literary style of the NT Gospels, the narrative style in which they are written in, reads just like a news report etc..
e.) Eye-witness Accounts - Due to the nature of a historical document, especially something in which the claims are great i.e - in the NT Gospels, Jesus claims to be God in human form, revealing himself to mankind. We go to the eye-witness accounts, to the disciples. We compare them with eachother... Are they Carbon Copies of one another?? NO. They have distinct personal flavoring in terms of written eye-witnessed events which they themselves have recorded.
The NT Gospels are reliable, therefore Jesus Christ is reliable aswell. Put your faith in Jesus Christ, not because I say so, but rather - because the overwhelming historical evidence points to this conclusion.
Because it's always spot on, about everything. Like God Himself.
Even so, come Lord Jesus!
Lee Strobel's Case for Christ and Josh Mcdowell's Evidence that Demands a Verdict is a good read as well.
Hi Xel. Not sure what exactly you are looking for since the question has no qualifiers. (IOW, are you looking for apologetics, biblical proofs, etc.)
For me, I will take this simple route.
Matt 16:17
17 And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
NASU
Because God has revealed it as truth to me. It wasn't that I read the book or that I researched it, (though I did those things). It was a miracle that occurred when God removed the veil from my face (2 Cor. 3).
Grace and peace,
Mark
"May the Lamb that was slain receive the just reward for His sufferings." A quote by Moravian missionary that sold himself (along with a friend) into slavery to reach those that the slave owner prevented from hearing the gospel.
May I live for Him and not for me.
well I'm only 15 and don't have the want or patience at the moment to dig as deep as finding if the bible is truly true..
i like to read back to the original Greek because its such a different meaning and when "Christians" start preaching at/to me i don't fully take in what they say until they can back it up and even after that i must check it out in original Greek to fully trust what they are saying..but as believing the bible is true it is with personal experiences with god as far as physical truth i do not have and for now won't have because i do not care...i guess I'll just be ignorant for now.![]()
