Whoa,a small earthquake happened near my town today!

Not a big one, thank God,a 2.6.I didn't feel anything, but it's still scary when you hear about it.It's the 2nd or 3rd one in the state so far this year.I thought as long as I wasn't in California or Alaska,I'd be safe from them. The high winds and tornados do more damage than what the earthquakes do here.In fact my dog does more damage than earthquakes.Hopefully,a major one will never happen. How many of you ever felt tremors on the ground?

We've been having rain and high winds here lately.and those get pretty scary.I have some huge silver maples in our back yard.My dog will pick the weirdest times to go to the bathroom.Like in a storm ,the wind will be blowing and you can hear the limbs knocking together .Since this is a small area, with the biggest town is about 60,000 so we get all the news here.

I don't know, but in three states somebody's doing something wrong! It's just this time of year.Plus I think they just added a earthquake meter in the area. They probably been having them iin some time. The rain and the wind comes with being in Tornado Alley.:

The New Madrid fault zone was the location of one of the largest earthquakes in the lower 48. I think the fault zone extends south into Arkansas. The big quakes in 1811 and 1812 are estimated to measure around 7.5 and 7.7 according to USGS. I recall that the quake actually caused the Mississippi to flow the wrong way for a time.

It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.

    Hi KATMAN,

I just happened over to the USGS EQ site and saw another EQ just happened very close to that last one, this time Mag 3.2. [May 29, 2010 at 09:34:02 PM] Did you feel it?

    Here's a link:

Looks like it was further North right where MO, TN and AR intersect.

My parents are just a bit north of you, and they didn't feel anything either.
