    Unhappy Lead in our purses..

Just saw this video on CNN and thought you ladies should know about this too. Lead not just in our purses but billfolds too. It can even be in the dyes they use to make the color of our purses.

    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bes...ead.cnn?hpt=T3

They said something about being able to get lead testing kits but didn't go into detail on that..wonder how much those cost? Also its a danger if babies or toddlers chew on our purses or billfolds.

    God bless

We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson

I have a purse fetish and I own a lot of purses.

Obviously I'm not going to stop using purses. I guess I should make it a habit to wash my hands really good after I use my purse or wallet?

If I had a baby or toddler, I'd be vigilant about keeping my purse/wallet away from them.

I wouldn't let babies/toddlers chew on purses or wallets. In fact, with all the things turning up with cadnium in them (made in China) I would be very very careful what I let babies/toddlers put in their mouths...or next to their skin. Raw vegetables make much better chewies and it teaches them to like the taste of vegetables in the process....

I saw this title and thought it was going to be about why our purses end up being so heavy! That is kind of scary because when he was little Alex would try to bite on my billfold. I have no idea why

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I just buy fabric bags instead of purses....but I am sure there is something used in the making which is harmful - there is in everything else. I don't let my grandson who is teething chew on either the bags or my wallet.

This makes you wonder about other things, like shoes. How much lead is in our shoes, and we have them on our feet for hours at a time.

I wouldn't let a baby chewy on leather at all...especially if its been dyed any color. Apparently the lead is in the dyes. Not too mention who knows what kind of chemicals they use on the leather during processing.

My son liked chewing on a plum when he was cutting his teeth...which was great and worked when I was at home and had plums right there. But out in public its common for moms to let their babies play with things in their purses...many times its car keys...which makes me wonder what's in those keys now.. Scary stuff anyway. Also makes me mad because I thought all this stuff was outlawed forever ago and we shouldn't have to worry about what we have with lead or other dangerous things in it.

Totally agree! I was just thinking outloud as to why children like to chew on wallets! No, the chemicals used on processing leather are not good. I think amnonia and formaldhyde are two of the chemicals used...

We've been lulled into thinking our government was watching out for us when in fact they are watching out for big business and not monitoring imports to make sure they adhere to our standards.

Apparently. They showed a lady that just during her free time was constantly checking the jewelry that is being sold for little girls ..whenever she was concerned she took it to some lab to be tested. Because of her doing this, some things have been recalled and taken off the shelves! She just does this because she is worried about what is being sold to children. I guess she also pays for the lab testing too. Some things she said she believed should have been taken off the market but weren't. Seems like the levels have to be extremely high before they do. I think it was both lead and cadmium she would have them check for. Makes me think its just better to not buy kids any jewelry for playing with unless its made of plastic. Though now I am wondering how safe that even is...

Its like President Bush actually raised the 'what is allowed of mercury' in the fish sold to the public. Mercy is a poison. No amount is safe. Yet we hear about how we should eat fish as its good for us.. how good can it be if its got mercury in it? I was told to limit the amount of tuna I ate a week when I was pregnant with my son. mercury causes deformities in unborn babies. Sometimes very severe deformities.

Then their is the rocket fuel found in baby formula...

    http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=7242880&page=1
A study by government researchers released Thursday tested 15 different brands of formula and found a chemical -- also found in rocket fuel -- contaminating every single one.

While the levels of the chemical, perchlorate, have been deemed safe by the Environmental Protection Agency, some worry public health is at risk.

The levels have been deemed safe? How can ANY rocket fuel in baby formula be deemed safe? What I want to know is how in the world it got in the formula to start with!?

You know its a wonder we aren't all dead by now..it really is..

Sorry I turned this thread into a rant...my soapbox...

    God bless

All this stuff makes you want to live in a plastic bubble. We do the best we can, pray over our families and our food before we eat it and let the Lord do the rest.
I think we'd absolutely freak out if we knew half of what we are exposed to on a day to day basis. Not even bottled water is safe. It's scary, frustrating and overwhelming at times.

I wouldn't want to be standing before God on judgement day, having placed profit over public safety.

It is easy to get paranoid about it. Knowing how to balance between protecting ourselves and our families without totally freaking out is the challenge. There are ways to cleanse heavy metals out of the body but they are not safe for small children and they are more vulnerable because of their small size.

Soon, we'll be hearing about how fish contaminated with lead and other toxic metals from the oil spill really are safe to eat........

    Yea..Amen on that.

When I read about how healthy some are in other countries that eat alot of grain or fish or something like that...I remember their food may not be exposed to the things ours is. So changing my diet to what they eat may do me no good...so I take those studies with a grain of salt because of that.

Most of the time I don't think about it actually...don't want too...its things like with these purses that will set me off though... And you are right about that..they'll tell us those fish will be safe to eat just so they can sell them. They'll say they cleaned them up. How can you clean up what they ate though that went through their system?

I try to eat some tuna and fish a few times a month but am wondering how much longer that will be a good idea? Might have to stick to the farm raised catfish for my fish...at least I know its not from the ocean.

Interestingly, farm raised fish lacks the omega-3's that wild fish have. Why? because farm raised are fed corn--not what they would be eating in the wild.
