The Truth About Your Food (from an article)

I was reading this on the net and thought some of you might be interested...especially those that have children: http://health.yahoo.net/experts/eatt...bout-your-food

Here is a sample of one of the foods they mention in this article:

    What's Really In …
    ORIGINAL SKITTLES (1 pack)
    250 calories
    2.5 g fat (2.5 g saturated)
    47 g sugars

They're sweet, chewy, and brightly colored. Now, what are they? Well, the basic formula for each chewy neon orb is a gross mashup of sugar, corn syrup, and hydrogenated palm kernal oil. That explains why every gram of fat is saturated and each package has more sugar than two twin-wrapped packages of Peanut Butter Twix.

So those three ingredients plus a few extra fillers are basically all it takes to get the general consistency and flavor, but to achieve that color spectrum, Skittles brings in a whole new list of additives. When a Skittles ad tells you to "taste the rainbow," what it's really telling you to do is taste the laboratory-constructed amalgam of nine artificial colors, many of which have been linked to behavioral and attention-deficit problems in children. A few years ago the British journal Lancet published a study linking the artificial additives to hyperactivity and behavioral problems in children, which prompted the Center for Science in the Public Interest to petition the FDA for mandatory labels on artificially colored products. The FDA's response: We need more tests.

In the meantime, there's a very large-scale test going on all across the country, and every Skittles eater is an unwilling participant. And that doesn't even factor in the blood-sugar roller coaster you go on when you ingest a Skittles' bag worth of sugar.

Of course, Skittles look like broccoli, nutritionally speaking, compared to the foods on our new must-know roundup of the 20 Worst Foods in America. Read how there could be more than a day's worth of calories, sugar, and heart-harming trans fats—in a single fast-food or chain-restaurant meal! (More importantly, learn what you should eat instead.)

When my son was little and I figured out that red dye 40 made him very, very hyper. The sad thing is its in almost everything..especially anything for children. Like children's vitamin's, children's cereal, even in grape juice...and even in those liquid antibiotics for children! And in over the counter medications for children to help with fever or pain...allergy medication. the list is endless.

I had to go to GNC to get vitamins for him that didn't have added sugars and dyes. I had to buy the more expensive over the counter medications that have no dyes added. (I thought they should be cheaper since they don't have to ADD something to them) in fact I heard in the UK much of their food has no dyes in them and when these things go through the factories they seperate what goes to the UK and what goes to the USA and ADD dyes to the ones going to the USA. I could not get him ice cream because of added dyes...once I found some Popsicles with no dyes then never found them again.

Most of what he ate for meals I cooked myself...potatoes, vegetables and meat which didn't have dyes in them but when it came to any kind of treats it had to be things like fruit (and not in a can because they usually add at least sugar but many times also dyes). The problem was he wasn't big on fruit. But really this is just insane to add these dyes to our foods when they don't add to the taste one bit! They just make the foods look 'better'...or the medication or the vitamins so people are more pron to buy them. Don't get me started on all this other stuff the article mentions in our foods either...

    God bless

We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; We drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; We drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated?" - D A Carson

When I was Nates age, I'd get $5 to go to the movie theater. On the walk to the theater, I'd stop at the A&P, buy a large bag of Doritos, 2 cans of rootbeer, and then show up at the theater, buy my ticket. Go sit down and snarf Doritos and drink rootbeer during the whole movie

I don't know what I'd do without a bag of Doritos... I grew up with this junkfood.

Can't do this today at any theater... but the DriveInn... oh, I'm bringing the Doritos!!

We have two of them. A single screener and a double screener. $5-6 (based on which one visited) per person to get in and 2 movies to watch and plenty of variety of movies. The one with the double screens... you have time to move from one to the other during half-time.

At the Blackriver one (which I go to)... I'll get 2 hotdogs and a soda for $6 during the half-time... at a regular theater, $6 might get me a medium popcorn, maybe.

And a pizza drawing no less! I am SO jealous! You know my son has never been to a drive in, not in his entire life. Poor deprived Nate. They have one in the city an hour away but from what I hear gangs hang out there and things can get dangerous... Plus since a movie can't start until dark...it would make for a very late night with the drive back home.

I think he would really enjoy it. They used to have little kid outdoor play equipment too in front of the screen (the screen was high enough the kids don't cover it up any if they are out there playing).

Do those drive in's still have the metal speakers you hang in the window for the sound?

Both of these transmit to radio. It's great because I back the pickup in, we sit in our chairs in the bad above everything and we have a boombox

So it's confirmed, Slug1 is a kid impersonating an adult pretending to be a kid...

As for the food: processed anything is what is making us sick. Processed foods are so full of chemicals and high fructose corn syrup and corn fillers and wheat/gluten fillers it's ridiculous.

Personally I am surprised we are all still alive. And when we do die are preserved well in our caskets... (processed foods never go bad you know!)

We would see far less diabetes, heart disease, allergies, autism, IBS, etc etc if we would simply give up the pseudofoods. Instead, folks want to eat McFood and take pills to reduce the symptoms of their poor food choices....

Probably...though its extremely difficult to avoid all these foods (or medication, etc) all the time.(dyes and other things). I sure learned that when my son had to avoid many of these foods when he was younger due to food allergies. Of course it didn't help he was allergic to milk, egg, yeast and soy! My yeast free bread making didn't work at all. And yeast free pizza crust is nasty...plus fake cheese, etc... Anyway this evening we munched on strawberries and blue berries...No dyes added! yippee!

    God bless

Oh, but don't you know? At least it has no salt, saturated fat or cholesterol. God forbid someone (like myself) would admit that they like steak and eggs for breakfast instead of a similar, food-coloring and man-added cardboard cereal that we all are told to struggle through because it's "healthy". And don't only limit the cholesterol, but also limit the sunlight. The increased incidence of skin cancer is only in everyone's imagination. Indians native to this continent ran around all the time with skin cancer.

BTW, seriously, anyone notice an increase in children's "allergies" in the last few generations? Stuff I never heard of before.

No wonder I believe in NWO/I stuff for population reduction. Based on the explosion in health problems, it must be working, but I guess that's a subject for the controversial section. One thing we can say for certain, despite my sarcasm above, don't listen to what is told. We are told what to avoid, never what to nourish ourselves with. Does this avoidance help? Are we better or worse off? I rest my case, in spite of being chastised by doctors, diet dictocrats and the like for not being able to be corralled and moo like the rest.
Yes, I already know about I Timothy 1:4 and Titus 3:9.
But these are endless and foolish genealogies, not God-given bible genealogies.

Oh, Genealogist, we should concentrate on avoiding: avoiding processed psuedofoods! Anything in a box, can, or bag should be highly suspect. And, stay away from SAD!

(SAD=Standard American Diet - highly processed and full of corn)
