    "The Bible Stories" DVDs

I saw a series of DVDs recently at a store that are all various Bible stories. I think these were released recently and originally shown on cable. Some have recognizable actors, like Patrick Dempsey as Jeremiah. Looks like the series includes Esther, Jeremiah, Jacob, Jesus, and David. They are all made by AFFIRM Films.

Anyone seen these? Are they any good?

Jeremiah, Moses, Abraham are very good. Joseph is nearly very good - well acted but the structure isn't brilliant. Still worth watching.

Not so fond of the rest of them... Samson and Delilah is practically pornographic and I wouldn't advise it for anyone.

Jeremiah and Moses are actually outstanding.

Oh, I forgot to say that David is also very good, and some might argue Jacob is good, though I think it sugar coats him a little.

So I'd say, go for Moses, Jeremiah, Abraham, Joseph, David and Jacob in that order (David might deserve higher, I've only seen it once.)

Their new testament stuff is atrocious, and Genesis is barely watchable.

Thanks Mary, good input. I bought Jeremiah first to see how it is.

As for Moses, well, I bought "The Ten Commandments" last week - the original with Heston. Haven't seen it since I was a young squirt, and then only on TV.

I think the Bible stories "Moses" is better than the Ten Commandments... Moses himself comes across as very human... I love his reaction to seeing the burning bush. He seems both less and more heroic than Heston... of course, I think he's a far better actor.

We have both "Moses" and "The Ten Commandments" and we love them both........ we also have a good version of "Genesis"...... we also have a good version of Jesus, but I don't know which version that is........
This week we should get the newest DVD of "Acts", to which we're very much looking forward to........

    Love you all,

I think I'll get the Moses with Ben Kingsley. I saw another Moses from 1975 with Burt Lancaster, but it doesn't sound as good.

The "David" DVD has Leonard Nimoy as Samuel. Live long and prosper!

I didn't realize so many Bible stories had been made into films until I started looking.

The Burt Lancaster one, if it's the one I'm thinking of, wasn't terribly good. I saw it when I was about twelve, and wasn't inspired. Ben Kingsley as Moses is just outstanding.
