I'm out of the organic cane sugar so if I make Chai, I have to use the regular sugar... the house sugar here in the office

Cavemen. There is so very much a difference in white sugar vs brown sugar. Now, if you are talking about the "organic cane sugar" thing....that is more marketing than real difference. Oh, it may well be organic sugar depending on definitions of "organic" but what do they think sugar is? Cane sugar IS sugar!

Mt. Dew is now available in a "sweetened with sugar" vs "sweetened with HFCS". Go for the sugar sweetened. HFCS is bad bad bad...no matter what the HFCS board tries to tell you on their infomercials.

Organic is always better than "regular" where it is affordable.

You also mentioned salt. I like to use a variety of "sea salts". There is a difference in flavor depending on the minerals that are in the various salts. Keep in mind though: if you are using uniodized sea salt you need to be sure you are supplementing iodine. I've been using a sea salt/kelp blend as kelp is a good source of iodine and other minerals.
