    Duuuudddee, YES! "This is my Father's World" comes up on my Pandora list often and it makes me very happy...always have to remind myself that I can not sing outloud at work...love the others, too!

    My church...well, not really MY church, but where I go...is kind of an old fashioned, country style church with a young pastor who loves the old hymns. And so do we who go there. I think me and my husband have gone the full circle. Went to all kinds of churches over the years, heard all kinds of 'music' and 'singing'and have finally settled back in where we started. Back at an old fashioned church, with an old fashioned altar and kids who love to memorize scriptures and go up to sing specials for the congregation. Where the people are a praying bunch and when they aren't praying, they are studying the Word. Calling each other and talking about some scripture passage.

    My favorite 'old Christian hymn'? My goodness...there are so many! But one that is especially dear to me is The Old Account Was Settled Long Ago. I think one reason is because my great-grandfather became a renown Southern Evangelist prior to and after the year 1900. I have a large collection of old newspaper clippings telling about him. He had been 'the town drunk' from the age of 12 till he was 32 years old. He was a blacksmith, and very uneducated. (Only went to school 3 days in his life, by his own admission!) His wife, my great-grandmother taught him to read using the Bible as his only school text book, and that was after he was miraculously saved at the age of 32. But as uneducated as he was, everyone loved him, and they were still writing remembrances of 'The Blacksmith Preacher' in the mid-1980's.

    Many of the clippings I have tell of seeing him walk into a church where he would be preaching a revival, an how he would walk through the door singing 'The Old Account Was Settled Long Ago. They said before he was finished with his singing, people were crying and filing to the altar!

    Now, friends, I have great-grandchildren of my own! Three of them. And for me, like my gr-grandfather, That Old Account Was Settled LONG AGO!

    Lyrics and Composer: Frank M. Graham, 1902.

    There was a time on earth, when in the book of Heav’n
    An old account was standing for sins yet unforgiv’n;
    My name was at the top, and many things below,
    I went unto the Keeper, and settled long ago.

    Long ago (down on my knees), long ago (I settled it all),
    Yes, the old account was settled long ago (Hallelujah!);
    And the record’s clear today, for He washed my sins away,
    When the old account was settled long ago.

    The old account was large, and growing every day,
    For I was always sinning, and never tried to pay;
    But when I looked ahead, and saw such pain and woe,
    I said that I would settle, I settled long ago.

    Long ago (down on my knees), long ago (I settled it all),
    Yes, the old account was settled long ago (Hallelujah!);
    And the record’s clear today, for He washed my sins away,
    When the old account was settled long ago.

    When in that happy home, my Savior’s home above,
    I’ll sing redemption’s story, and praise Him for His love;
    I’ll not forget that book, with pages white as snow,
    Because I came and settled, and settled long ago.

    Long ago (down on my knees), long ago (I settled it all),
    Yes, the old account was settled long ago (Hallelujah!);
    And the record’s clear today, for He washed my sins away,
    When the old account was settled long ago.

    O sinner, trust the Lord, be cleansed of all your sin,
    For thus He hath provided for you to enter in;
    And then if you should live a hundred years below,
    Up there you’ll not regret it, you settled long ago.

    Long ago (down on my knees), long ago (I settled it all),
    Yes, the old account was settled long ago (Hallelujah!);
    And the record’s clear today, for He washed my sins away,
    When the old account was settled long ago.
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

    "Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

    Back in my teens I was a member of a youth group and our pastor was a semi professional musician. I remember one year at a summer camp he and a couple other guys from the church had this make-shift band and they did rockier versions of a bunch of hymns.
    If I close my eyes I can still hear, see, and feel their rendition of "Our God is an Awesome God" with a packed auditorium of teenagers singing along. All around me were other teenagers, my peers, simply compelled to pour out worship and do nothing but cry out "our God is an awesome God". Ahead of me was Pastor A and his band playing as if the very act was a sacrifice, sweat pouring off them, and hands blurred ... right at that line where exceptional skill flirts with taking on more than it can handle. Eyes squinted as lyrics were belted out, like it was the last words he'd ever say. The sound was all encompassing and inescapable... like the roar of an ocean, or just something incomprehensibly big moving. You could feel it in your feet as people jumped up an down. You could feel the drum beats and bass in your chest. Surely, SURELY David must have felt the same when he carried the Ark into Jerusalem.

    Phos Hilaron (based on John Keble's translation) is probably my favorite.

    Hail, gladdening Light, of his pure glory poured
    Who is the immortal Father, heavenly, blessed
    O Holiest of Holies, Jesus Christ our Lord
    Now we are come to the sun's hour of rest
    The lights of evening 'round us shine
    We hymn the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit divine
    Worthiest art thou at all times to be sung
    With undefiled tongue
    Son of our God, giver of life, alone
    Therefore in all the world thy glories

    Amazing Grace has to be my #1 choice and then Because He Lives is a close second!!! For Praise and Worship my song of choice right now is In Christ Alone (sung by Newsboys)

    Not a very old one, but still a good one!

    BECAUSE HE LIVES
    Writer Bill Gaither

    God Sent His Son, They Called Him Jesus;
    He Came To Love, Heal And Forgive.
    He Lived And Died To Buy My Pardon;
    An Empty Grave Is There To Prove My Savior Lives.

    Chorus:
    Because He Lives
    I Can Face Tomorrow
    Because He Lives
    All Fear Is Gone
    Because I Know He Holds The Future
    And Life Is Worth The Living
    Just Because He Lives

    How Sweet To Hold A Newborn Baby,
    And Feel The Pride And Joy He Gives;
    But Greater Still The Calm Assurance:
    This Child Can Face Uncertain Day Because He Lives.

    Chorus

    And Then One Day I'll Cross The River;
    I'll Fight Life's Final War With Pain.
    And Then, As Death Gives Way To Vict'ry,
    I'll See The Lights Of Glory And I'll Know He Reigns.

    That song, and particularly that verse, literally saved my life.
    For what mortal has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? ~ Deuteronomy 5:26

    "turn your eyes upon Jesus..look full in His wonderful face
    and the things of the earth will grow strangely dim
    in the light of His glory and grace"....

    ^^^my favorite hymn and my favorite lullabye for my daughter.
    "Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you..."
    Acts 26:16

    Well... in all honesty, "the Battle Hymn of the Republic".

    I love "I Have Deciede to Follow Jesus", but that's probaby not really a hymn.

    "For The Beauty of the Earth" is a fav. I think I am choosing my favs based on the music, not the lyrics.
    In Christ,

    Blessed Assurance still does it for me, though every morning for the last ten years or so I wake in the morning with Heaven came down and Glory filled my Soul in my head. Never tire of it.

    Amazing Grace would be # 1 on my list.Being a guitar player,it's a great song to play,and many styles to choose from. I also like Just a Closer Walk,and I'll Fly Away.

    For anybody that wants to take up the guitar and never thought they could play,try learning four simple chords and play a lot of old hymns.You know the words and beat and rythym,now learn the chords.That is how I learned.

    It is my prayer that when I am at my last breath, I will be singing It Is Well With My Soul....because it will be!

    My Faith Has Found a Resting Place

    "My faith has found a resting place,
    Not in device nor creed;
    I trust the Ever-living One,
    His wounds for me shall plead.

    (CHORUS) I need no other argument,
    I need no other plea;
    It is enough that Jesus died,
    And that He died for me.

    Enough for me that Jesus saves,
    This ends my fear and doubt;
    A sinful soul I come to Him,
    He'll never cast me out.

    My heart is leaning on the Word,
    The written Word of God,
    Salvation by my Savior's name,
    Salvation through His blood.

    My great Physician heals the sick,
    The lost He came to save;
    For me His precious blood He shed,
    For me His life He gave. "

    The Love of God...

    Could we with ink the ocean fill,
    And were the skies of parchment made,
    Were every stalk on earth a quill,
    And every man a scribe by trade;
    To write the love of God above
    Would drain the ocean dry;
    Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
    Though stretched from sky to sky.
    "May the Lamb that was slain receive the just reward for His sufferings." A quote by Moravian missionary that sold himself (along with a friend) into slavery to reach those that the slave owner prevented from hearing the gospel.

    May I live for Him and not for me.
