Thread: Has the world really become that bad?

Has the world really become that bad?

I was reading once online about how in the mid 50s that they would film Elvis Presley above his hips because his movements were "sexual". If you look at the music industry, there's a lot of sexual suggestion in the lyrics and songs etc. and I'm sure it wasn't like that a couple of decades ago.

I'm sure there is more to add, but has the world become more sinful as the bible was talking about sin multiplying in the end times?

    2 Timothy 3
1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

I think looking at "the world" as being what American television has experienced in the last 50 years to be somewhat myopic.

Ok, looking at the world one would see the "trend" i mentioned above happening even outside American television - i.e African,S American,European etc..
I mentioned Elvis Presley because it was the only example I've read of.
Also homosexuality, that is a global trend probably increasing if I'm not mistaken.

Based on that is the world becoming more sinful as the bible said?

I have trouble believing so. So what if homosexuality is gaining broader acceptance. Only a handfull of generations ago people were kidnapped from their homes, shipped across the sea, and sold into chattel slavery, which is something that horrifies even modern "relativist" moralities.

Many people like to look at what the Bible says about the end times and start to make predictions about that. Since it is human nature to look at what is in favor of this hypothesis and ignore the misses, I think it is safe to say that we should behave as Jesus could come at any minute. We shouldn't speculate on the minute he will come!

Hisleast also brings up a good point. People were sexually sinful in the past as they were today, but our media has now made it cool to be promiscuous. Likewise, in the 1850's you would be treated as a pervert if you talked in public like we can today, but it was hip to enslave your brother in Christ and treat him as your property. It was ok to think of people of different races as inferior, and the more non-Christians you killed in a war, the cooler you were!

I think it's obvious, and I think it's not the immoral stuff in the TV that's the problem.. what's the real problem is that it's making people desensitized. 15 years ago there were no movies like SAW or Pan's Labyrinth.. what really shocked me that some people actually liked those movies. Maybe the TV isn't the perfect meter to measure the moral of society, but I think it's telling something. They show what people want to see, after all.

    Other things of notice:

Homosexuality: Not so long ago homosexuality was illegal - now the homosexuals are like the new Aryans, the highest class of the society.

Witchcraft: The progress is similar. The popularity of witchcraft has exploded during the last 30 years.

Abortion: In some cases, abortion was accepted before the 20th century but not until our time has it been as popular and accepted as it is now. To me it's clear that things are getting worse and worse in the world, just like Jesus said.

    Hi dim2.
Your question reminded me of a movie I saw once called "Time Changer". The movie made me realize how dull I had become to the sinful world around us. Check it out if you can.

Dull as in desensitized to the sin in the world?
Also regarding witchcraft, although not directly related I remember how I "celebrated" Halloween but now I know it's a day to "honour" satan.

Boy has it ever. And do you know what barometer you use to determine this? Up to just one or two generations ago, people tried to hide their sins, now it's in your face, boasting about it and even CONDONING it.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held it's ground.

Yes. dull as in desensitized. This guy goes into the future from the 1800's and he's amazed at how things have changed. There's one part where a kid is watching tv and something comes on that would have been seen as indecent back then, so he steps between the kid and the tv and the kids parents are in the kitchen and the guy is looking at them like "hey, do you see what your kid is watching here?" It's a great movie to watch with your family.
Yeah, halloween and alot more has been woven into our culture through false religion.

So... again, the North American experience is the sole determinant for how the world is going?

I don't think what continent you live on has anything to do with it. The Bible tells us the world will grow worse. It's a done deal.

And how come the evidence for this claim is always exclusively from the American perspective?

It isn't. It's from the Christian perspective. I've heard that over in Europe, you don't even need cable to see people having sex on tv. I've also heard that in some countries, houses of prostitution are so open that women sit in store front type windows displaying their wares to attract customers. Of course this is hearsay to me as I've never been overseas, but any Christian on any continent can see that people are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

That kind of thing was true even in the middle ages.
