    Someone like me

I have been trying desperately to find young adults that share the same values as me.
    Some of those values being:
    -modesty
    -women and girl wear skirts/dresses
-men and boys wear pants (no shorts)
-man is the head of the household, but not a tyrant
    -homeschooling children
-leaving the number of children up to God (ie. no contraceptives)
    -courtship (no "dating")
    -deep family connection

I guess you could say my values are old school, and I feel alone in that way, I feel God pushing me to find a good community and to get married and start a family. I can't even describe the longing I feel for those things. I pray constantly and yet I still feel that pull.

beautifullymade..if you don't mind me asking..what influenced your dress code? When its a 100 plus degrees outside you don't think a man should wear shorts? A woman at least can stay fairly cool in a dress...unless you are talking about the whole nine yards of wearing hose and slips. I am just curious how you came up with some of this when its not in the bible. There are very nice long shorts out there for both women and men. I am just curious. Its not a lifestyle I would want to live but Christ gives us freedom to chose too. So I wish you the best in this.

The Mennonite or Amish community is very much like how you described actually. The men only shave until they are married ..once married they don't shave (well I image they might trim their beards)..I have never seen one in shorts either. I honestly don't know how they can stand it especially since many don't have electricity either. The woman always wear dresses and either little white caps on their heads with the hair under those..or black ones. They usually live on farms...they drive horse and buggies. (some do drive cars though). They don't use birth control either...at least not any medical kind but I never see them with a huge amount of children either actually. That isn't exactly something you can just ask them about. They could have more then I see because its not often they bring their children into town.

We have a community like that close to where I live and I do admire them alot but there are also some problems too. While they are deeply connected to each other when a person does something bad..and I mean really bad, they just shun them for awhile instead of calling the police. Shunning is 'casting them out of the church' like the bible says and for some it really affects them and they repent. For a few...the police really need to be called.

Now they do come into town and do grocery shopping and see the doctor and all. And some do use electricity. They are hard working...up before dawn and labor hard throughout the day. I could tell you more if you are interested. I don't know if they let outsiders in though. I think most are born into this. But I don't know 100% on that either.

    God bless

I would hardly call myself Amish of Mennonite.

The best example I can possibly find of my values, are basically a mirror of The Duggar family.

I'm not familiar with The Duggar Family. I'm not certain what you mean by community.

Holiness and some pentecostal people believe in very modest dress - such as no shorts, many wear long sleeves, women wear dresses and keep long hair. The homeschooling and contraception seems to depend on the couple's circumstances more than an overall rule.

Well... I can't say I share all of those, but maybe enough of them that we'd have something in common. I'm also not sure if I qualify as a "young adult" anymore -- I'm only 25, but I've been married for three years and have two children. But, it wasn't that long ago that I was single and a college student.

I do believe strongly in modesty, and think it's a shame it's not more valued in or society or even in our churches. On the other hand, I do wear pants and what I consider modest shorts in addition to skirts and dresses, and I don't have a problem with men and boys wearing shorts.

My husband is the head of our household, with me as his helper as we see in the Bible. I believe the position of "helper" is not a derogatory one, but one of great value.

Our children will be homeschooled (my husband and I both were as well) and I'm actually preparing to start doing preschool with our oldest next month.

I don't see any Biblical problem with contraceptives in and of themselves. There are certain ones I have concerns about and would not use for those reasons, but I believe that if a husband and wife are open to God's leading with regard to their family and having children, contraceptives are not contrary to His will.

My husband and I chose to court rather than date -- and neither of us had ever courted or dated anyone else.

Family is a big deal to us. We live on one income so that I can take care of our children full-time, and we plan to homeschool because we believe it's the best option for our children and our family as a whole. We both knew before we got married that we were looking for someone who wanted this kind of lifestyle.

If there's any way I can help or encourage you, please feel free to let me know!
Give me one pure and holy passion
    Give me one magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life:
To know and follow hard after You.

Oh ok..that was all I could think of that fit what you were thinking of. They have deep family connections for sure! When a couple for instance marries off a daughter or son, they don't go set up a seperate home, the parents add on to their home and they keep adding as the children marry so in a way they all live together as one very large family and help each other with the children and chores.

Here is a link to the Duggar family website for those that don't know who they are:

    http://www.duggarfamily.com/index.html

They have their own TV reality show too. I watched part of one of those shows once. (I have personal issues with large families actually which I will keep to myself since that is off topic. Just explaining why I don't watch them..but there are many on the board that do and admire them.) I am sure there are other families out there with the same values they have but I don't know if they are all doing as well as the Duggar family though. I know alot of large families really struggle money wise and live in poverty too....though their beliefs may be different then the Duggars. I noticed alot of the boys wear jeans, not pants in some of those photo's btw.

But at any rate I am sure there are some young men looking for would be wives that holds the same views as you do. Just be careful though. Some of these are Mormons and others that say they are Christians but follow books that clearly contradict the bible, (like the Mormons do who have alot of the same ideas you do btw). So just make sure any young man that courts you is following the bible only...

    God bless

Yeah, I do enjoy electricity haha Though being a close family is a great thing.

When I say plants I mean jeans as well, as far as my vocabulary goes, pants includes any type of structured material that goes from the waist to just below the ankle.

I only know a little bit about Mormons, but I know a few girls that were and from what I heard they wrote their own "bible"? And something about when you die you become a God/Goddess but I'm not sure.

It's not easy finding men with those values. Most of the boys I know what to "date" more than one girl, and run at the thought of commitment.

The Mormons use the same bible we do but they also use a book written by Joseph Smith whom they believe was the last apostle and that God revealed things to him..which is how they got the idea the men become gods of their own planet..the wive(s) and children are 'jewels' in their crown and become angels on that planet I guess to serve the man. Sometime odd like that.

The Mennonite and Amish also make their own clothes..no buttons or zippers are used. Its pretty interesting how they make these without those things.

Are you going to a church? My guess would be looking there for someone with the same values as yours. And the Duggar's might have some single young men looking for a wive too! you never know.

    God bless

    Re: Someone like me

It sounds to me like the Mormons just kind of took the Bible and added pieces they liked into a "second edition," but that's just my opinion. I suppose people could say the same thing about the Bible. But I digress....
The only way I could imagine that working is either if they use elastic, which I doubt, or everything ties together. They are an interesting group of people.

Unfortunately I don't have a church right now, and I'm looking. I'm just not finding any that really speak to me. If only I knew the Duggars in person!!

They have always made their clothes like that..long before elastic..I suppose they could be using it now. I have tired looking closely without staring trying to figure it out..lol. The dresses seem to be kind of a wrap in a way...

Well keep searching because you do need to be in a church if for nothing else then to worship and fellowship with other believers.

Sometimes I have had times where I am questioning certain issues and I just wish I could talk to so and so about it. Then, the leading of the Holy Ghost always reminds me, it's not people that have the answers. It's God. Continue to go to his word. Continue to pray. Continue to develop your relationship in the Lord. That's where the answers will be found.

I am one that believes we all need a church. I know it's not easy to find a church, but you need to pray on it and continue to try different churches until you find the place God wants you. It is good to have examples from good Godly people, but be careful that you are following God and not man.

    Re: Someone like me

    i am 15..
i find nothing wrong in wearing what you like as long as it is not revealing(both male and female)
i also am homeschooled and will homeschool my children but still don't think school is bad.
the number of children thing i have really no views on because i just don't care aha..
okay i don't date never have won't because as weird as it seems i already know who my wife will be and dating honestly is the most pointless thing at the teen age..but i don't think it is wrong when others do date.
