What is idolatry? How do you know if you are practicing idolatry in your own life? How do you know if your love for God is first and foremost, or if, perhaps unaware, you are commiting spiritual adultery against Him?

In the Scriptures idolatry is tied in with coveteousness. When we desire/lust in our heart things that we should be trusting God for we create our idol. One of the Reformers (Calvin? Luther?) said our heart is an idol factory.

The things in our lives we give devotion to are idols if they have
greater influence than God does.
What if they are not taking precedence over God, but you really, really, really, really enjoy them?!
Then you really, really, really enjoy whatever it is, provided (and this will be my contribution, unless it's already beens aid) it does not interfere with your relationships, work ethic, 'personal life', etc. And, I would suggest, something you "really, really, really, really enjoy" is a good candidate for becoming something which is idolatrous.
