Re: Questions from the book of 1 & 2 PETER

    2 Peter 1

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

What has His divine power given us? His divine power has given us everything we need for life. (It also says says godliness but then it says through our knowledge of him, so i was not sure if it was his divine power that gave us godlisness or our knowlege of him. or both perhaps.

    Finish the verses: "For this very reason, make every effort to add........" to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,

Finish the verse: "We did not follow cleverly invented stories........"
When we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Above all, what must we understand about the prophecy of scripture? We must must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.

    2 Peter 2

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

Where did God send the angels who sinned? He sent them to Hell (question: is this a life style of sin the angels had (a willingly sinful lifestyle i should say), or was it simply sinning once?)

Finish the verse: "This is especially true of those who......" follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

What do those, who's eyes are full adultery do? They never stop sinning.

Finish the verse: "For they mouth empty, boastful words and,......" and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error.

What is man a slave to? A man is a slave to what ever to whatever has mastered him.

It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Is this speaking about those who were being appealed by thise who never stop sinning, and then joining in with them?

Finish the verse: "Of them the proverbs are true:......"A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud."

Here's what the note from the ESV Study Bible says: "2 Pet. 2:20–22 It would have been better for these false teachers never to have escaped the world in the first place, than to follow in the path of the knowledge of … Christ only to abandon that path and return to a life of sin and darkness. One reason it is better not to have known about the holy commandment is that those who turn away after falsely confessing the Christian faith will not be inclined to consider Christ again. Another reason is that their knowledge and experience of the Christian life makes them more accountable before God (cf. Luke 12:47–48). Some understand these verses to teach that true believers can lose their salvation. It is more likely that Peter refers to those who appeared to be Christians but then showed by their apostasy and their behavior that they never truly belonged to Christ (see notes on John 6:66; 15:2; Gal. 2:3–4; 1 John 2:19). God promises that those who truly know him will never fall away because he will keep them by his grace (cf. John 10:27–29; Rom. 8:28–39; Phil. 1:6). Those who do turn back show that their true character is like that of a dog (cf. Prov. 26:11) or a sow. They appeared to have been saved, but by returning to the vomit and mire of the world, they demonstrated that they were never truly regenerated."

Re: Questions from the book of 1 & 2 PETER

    2 Peter 3

For what purpose did Peter write these letters? The purpose of the letters were reminders to stimulate wholesome thinking.

Finish the verse: "First of all, you must understand that......" that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

What one thing does Peter say we shouldn't forget? We shouldn't forget that with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

Finish the verse: "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise......" , as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

Finish the verse: "Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this,......" Be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
