I believe Nazarene just means coming from Nazareth. It doesn't mean nazarite.

The bible doesn't condemn drinking. The bible teaches against drunkeness. Leviticus 10:9 says: Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: This seems to imply that priests did sometimes drink when they weren't on duty.

If God didn't want people to drink ever He could have wrote it in the bible. He didn't. But again drunkeness is always considered bad. I believe the fruit of the vine at the last supper could have been grape juice. I also believe Jesus may have drunk a little wine while here on the earth. But he never got drunk. He just drank a little bit. It was considered a food item back then. And the wine of that day was about half as strong as what is available today. Jesus said that he wouldn't drink any fruit of the vine again until the kingdom of God comes. (Luke 22:18) The first time alcohol is mentioned in scripture is when Noah got drunk. This is probably the only bad thing that was written about him.

He came drinking & they called him a drunkard.

He didn't drink ANYTHING at the Last Supper. He said "I will not drink this cup until I drink it new in the Kingdom of God."

Is that really what he said?

Mar 14:23-25 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. "This is my blood of the [fn] covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them. "I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God."

He blessed it. They all drank from it. He will not again drink from the vine until...

God reqired the bread of the passover to be "unleavened" bread.

So why would it be OK to consume "leavened" fruit of the vine? It is the yeast in the juice that corrupts the juice. Yeast is leavening.

I read a book once that said wine in Jesus day was not like the wine of today.... It didn't have nearly the alcohol content.... Thus it took longer for what was there to take effect.... Also wine in Jesus day was used to purify or clean the water.... Or make it drinkable.... Or maybe it just took the waters place.... Not quite sure on that.... But everyone drank wine.... It was not (just to reiterate) like the wine of today which is mixed with other things to make it pack more punch with less consumption.... Just one more way man has messed a good thing up....

Because (I assume) we are talking about everyday life.... Not the Passover.... Which is but one event on the Israelites callendar.... They ate leavened bread.... Just not on Passover....

However.... Did they drink wine at Passover? Does anyone know?

The idea that Jesus never drank alcohol just has no biblical basis. All you have to do is read the book. People who argue with the book have bigger issues to overcome than drinking!

I wonder if this will help differentiate between wine and strong drink....

(Luk 1:13 KJV) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

(Luk 1:14 KJV) And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

(Luk 1:15 KJV) For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

When the angel told Zachariah about John he said that John would drink neither wine nor strong drink.... Which means they are two different things.... Kind of like Cabernet Sauvignon vs. Jack Daniels....

People got drunk on wine back then just fine. From all of the quotes in the Bible against drunkeness.. it didn't seem to be a problem.

    1 Corinthians 11:20-22

20When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat, 21for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. 22Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not!

Yeast starts the fermentation process as soon as the hull breaks in the press. The ONLY way the wine could have not had yeast in it is for the alcohol content by volume to reach a minimum of 12%, at which point the alcohol kills all of the yeast. The Passover was 9 months AFTER the grape harvest and there was no known way to keep grape juice from fermenting in the arid climate. So... either Jesus sinned, or the wine was alcoholic. You choose.
