Preach it like God means it, not like...

we all may want it to mean!

Matthew 10:7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead,[c] cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Luke 10:8 Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9 And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’

Here we see that Jesus began to prep people for spreading the Gospel. I think that this is a great example of on the job training. Those 70 returned in joy as to what they accomplished:

Luke 10:17 Then the seventy[e] returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather[f] rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

Later He gave this command as well...

Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So, when any preach these scriptures to prepare and/or inspire others to go out and spread the Gospel, why does it seem they leave parts out or the truth is, even though they preach it... they don't believe it?

When does man's traditions, expectations and ultimately our experiences trump the Word of God and we even challenge the Word of God by not believing any of these miracles are happening today?

Thus, we preach our beliefs based on traditions, expectations and experiences and NOT preach the Word of God as GOD says it, as we are to believe it. Instead, what "we" want God's Word to mean... then we ask why the Body of Christ is powerless today?

Are we suffering from tradition today just like many were when Jesus spoke these words, thus is this warning for us today as well?

Mark 7: 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”

Are you not doing the very thing you are accusing others of doing?

Do you know the significance of the phrase "the kingdom of heaven is at hand" to the nation of Israel? Do you know why that message was specifically sent to the Jews?

Mark 16:17-18 is not supported by the other gospel accounts. Why?

Is it not true that to declare it like God means it you must first comprehend it like God means it?

Sorry Roger... the Great Commission is for the entire Body of Christ and we see by the examples of those before us what we are to do. Jesus trained those men with the resource He had at His disposal... the Jewish nation. As we see later in Acts, first the Jewish in Jerusalem (Acts 1-7), then all of Judea/Samaria (Acts 8-12), and FINALLY all the world (Acts 13-28)

First Jesus had to preach and inspire those who went out with what was available for their training and that was the LOCALS. We can't do the same today? Your reason for us not to follow the Word of God and bring/spread the Gospel to all the world is because the audience isn't Jewish?

Besides... if this thread is closed at least readers can still read it and receive God's truth... not any meaning that man wants God's Word to mean according to their traditions, religion, rituals, expectations and ultimately their experiences bringing them to only accept what their traditions lead them to preach and they don't preach God's Word as God is saying it.

Besides... even if I don't hit anything, the noise I'm sure to make with a machinegun will draw attention... both friendly and enemy. As the enemy returns fire with traditional inspired understanding of scripture... we can only fire back with God's truth.

    It's not?

The very scripture I posted supports it.

Also this, read this scripture again Roger:

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

You know that very contested part of the Great Commission about poison? Guess what... this scripture supports that part of the Great Commission as well. The other scriptures I posted from Matthew and Luke... all support the Great Commission. Those scriptures are the very foundation of the specifics of the Great Commission. The Great Commission actually began with what Jesus had all those men do. So then with the Great Commission we go out, spread the Gospel (witness), baptize, heal, cast out, speak in new tongues, be protected... the scriptures from Matthew and Luke FULLY support the entire Great Commission.

As for the protection part, we have another scripture that shows us that portion of the Great Commission's stipulations in effect:

Acts 28:3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 4 So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.” 5 But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm.

So how can you say that the scripture isn't supported?

Acts 28:3 is a fulfillment of Mark 16:17-18. I've been saying that all along. Guess who had the snake on their hand? Paul the "apostle"

No problem with that for me. I've always maintained that the poison was fulfilled by an apostle too. Remember, of 12 apostles, 8 of them we know little to zero about in their post Pentecost ministries.

How to get saved was for everyone. The signs were for the workers. (apostles)

    all the best...

So how can you say that the scripture isn't supported?
I know you are not going to like this because it does not fit into what you want the scripture to say but the endowment of authority to the disciples in Luke 10 was temporary. In fact later the disciples complained to the Lord that they could not cast out a demon like they have earlier.

Mat 28:19-20 does not include the "stipulations" you see in Mark 16. Luke 24:46-48 is also without "stipulations". John 17:18 and 20:21 again have no "stipulations". Acts 1:8-9 we have a promise of power but no specific "stipulations".

Acts 28:3 is an account of Pauls missionary experience and I do not doubt that if a believer were in a similar situation God could easily replicate the event for His glory. I would not go and tempt God but there is every reason to believe that God protects those He sends to carry the gospel to those who need to hear it. We may never know how many times God has shielded us from harm even when we are just driving down the road to visit someone who needs to hear about Christ.

1 Cor 1:21 ...it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. No signs, no miracles, no thunderings, no lightenings, no earthquakes, no rushing winds, and no tongues just preaching the word of God. 1 Cor 15:1-8 take that message out to all the world and watch God bless.

I understand all that also Roger... I do. When the 70 went out, it was just to show us all what we are capable of. Anyway, you're wrong about the temporary authority. They were being trained still and to listen to the Holy Spirit and exercise discernment when dealing with demons is needed as well, PLUS belief as we will soon understand as you read on. See my continued explaination below.

In the Great Commission, Jesus is talking to the Apostles but the Great Commission isn't FOR the Apostles, it's for ALL who believe.

Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they[b] will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

All these underlined parts are for ALL Christians, not limited to ONLY the Apostles.

You also didn't address my answer to your challenge. All those other scriptures from the Gospels I posted, do support all the elements of the Great Commission. You say they don't and I posted them and explained them and now you don't address them in return?

You're not making the truth from those other scriptures go away

Casting that demon out continued... your point about not being able to cast out a demon is all wrong. They could cast the demon out, Jesus not only cast that demon out but in His casting that demon out, He gave a DEMONSTRATION of the need to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit when dealing with demons. He also EXPLAINED to them of their mistake when dealing with that demon. COME ON ROGER... we can all read the scriptures.

Let's took at the scripture, shall we so no one else reading your post is confused by the slant you present it to fit your belief and not God's truth:

Matthew 17:19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;[d] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

So we see the TRUTH of God's Word is not what you say. It's NOT because the authority was temporary as you say. The reason was because of their lack of belief and the fact that they didn't know about the fasting needed. This is where the Holy Spirit comes in for us today. If I'm prompted to fast because I am to cast out a demon, I fast. This can only be done by those LISTENING to God's voice and instruction as we are LED by the Holy Spirit.

Let's also look at the same scripture from another Gospel:

Mark 9:23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe,[a] all things are possible to him who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” 26 Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
29 So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

So, with this perspective from Mark... it's the fathers belief. So we see in both scriptures that belief and still the fasting is what enables the authority.

So in conclusion we understand that the authority ISN'T temporary. There is however, the need to always LISTEN to God's way and what He tells us to do so we are effective in Spiritual Warfare against demons. Anyway, what is important that God's TRUTH shines... the authority was NOT temporary as you said, that is clear by the very scripture you tried to use according to your belief, not God's Truth.

Remember Roger, this thread is all about the way God means it, not the way we WANT it to mean

17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." 18 And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20 "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."

21 At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, "I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 22 " All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him."
