    Why is God so silent?

    God seems so distant to me at this moment. I'm not living in sin, but sometimes I slip and fall into sin because I'm not perfect, i'm just a human being. I've been praying for something for a solid year, and it seems like God has just been ignoring me. I know God answers prayers and I know he listens... but he just seems so distant..

    And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? Hebrews 12:5-7

    It is possible that God is telling you 'NO' in His own way. We do walk by faith, but we must also learn to be thankful and joyful. Paul told the Philippians:

    Phil. 4: 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

    God tells us to be joyful, thankful and always prayerful. Finally, we are to keep our minds on all things good, holy, pure, and admirable...Such actions and thoughts go a long way towards developing a mind set that will carry you through life and beyond...

    Is it God being silent ... or is it us being hard of hearing?

    God speaks to us through His Son (Hebrews 1) ... how are you and Jesus doing? Are you hearing what He's saying? Are you doing what He already told us to do?

    What you're praying for ... is it for more closeness between yourself and God? Somebody else's relationship with Him ... or temporary things?

    Eternal first, temporary second ... them's the priorities.

    A year of prayers is not that much........ I couldn't walk at all anymore and for over 5 years lots of people have been praying for me, and only recently those prayers were answered and I can walk small distances in the house again........ and you know what? It's the perfect time!
    So maybe God is telling you not yet instead of no...... keep up the prayers, He will answer them one way or another........ if He does say No, He usually has a good reason for it.......

    Hi Punchy. Don't be discouraged, but rather shift your focus by seeking those things which are above.

    Colossians 3:1-3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.


    As to the "slip and fall into sin", look at the apostle Paul. This is a man who was saved for twenty some years when he wrote this:

    Romans 7:14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

    Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

    The moment you believed the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) you became "in the Spirit". You are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. Reckon yourself indeed dead unto sin. Add it up. The sin/sins issue was dealt with 2000 years ago. Jesus Christ was made sin for you (2 Corinthians 5:21), died on the cross for YOUR sins (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). He was delivered for your offences and raised again for your justification (proving that your sins are paid for). (Romans 4:25)

    Reckon yourself indeed dead unto sin! Add it up!
    Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

    2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    As to prayer: Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

    I think sometimes God uses periods of silence for some attitudes or things in our heart to change. Don't stop praying though! God IS listening

    Let me ask you this... Have you read the Bible, the entire Bible? I ask because the Bible is the revealed will of God. For those that are not interested in finding out what is his revealed will, they have no business asking about his hidden will.

    Prov 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

    God answered Daniel's prayer immediately, but it took an angel 21 days to deliver the answer. But the reason why his prayer was answered was because of Daniel 9:2, because Daniel set his heart to study the Bible and understand it.

    Dan 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

    Do not say you are not living in sin, if you are. And we all are. That does not help.

    The Lord resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.

    Perhaps he is not answering because you actually believe you DESERVE an answer?

    It is hard to provide feedback without knowing the details of your prayer and your life. We are shooting in the dark here.

    Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
    2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
    3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
    4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
    5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
    6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
    7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
    8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

    It could be a test of your faith...

    I've found that sometimes the harder I seek, the more quiet he becomes... For a time! That is the test. It is not always like this, but I have found that it is sometimes

    Be encouraged, and keep moving forward with hope and faith! Know that others also are going through similar trials... You're not alone

    I've been there. There is a reason He is "silent". Our Walk with Him should never be expected to be a constant Spiritual plateau. Sometimes, we must Walk in Faith. My advice is to make sure you are doing all you can to seek Him. Immerse yourself in the things of God. Scripture, prayer, activities. Don't let the guilt of your weakness drive you away from Him. He will forgive you if you ask for it with a true heart. It's been my experience that, the more effort I make to spend time with Him daily, the more His Spirit is evident within me.

    It's good to know that i'm not the only one who is going through this. Reynolds I do pray, I pray twice a day. I've been praying for this specific thing every night for a year now. How much longer will he be silent?

    Sometimes, as was mentioned already, God is not speaking for He wants one to wait, but also He tells us that He hears not sinners (see John 9:31). That is saying that though one is speaking to God, if he does not really know the Savior, God will not regard him (note Mt. 7:21-23). Salvation is not in speaking to God, or even trying to live the Christian life. We do not know what you believe, dear friend, so you need to examine yourself in accord with the Word of God.

    God is not silent. We hear him in our hearts ,Through the Word and in everything and everyone created.
