How exciting! I am sure her skin will be glad to have that break and get cleaned up nice and good too.I will be praying her back looks great when the cast comes off. And praying that the new speech therapist is a good one.
Keep us posted.
God bless

I had a lot of fluid in my ears when preschool/kindergarten. I had 50% hearing loss due to it. so she may not be hearing you very well therefore not picking up on words. Fluid can affect hearing. I had tubes in and that helped a lot. i had to do Kindergarten a second year to make up for what I missed when I wasn't hearing well.
I actually have a nephew that is 5 years old and the teacher has told his parents the same thing - he will have to repeat Kindergarten next year. He has tubes in his ears right now. But, he had a lot of fluid and they didn't catch it at an early age. He was 4 when he got the tubes. But, he was very late to talk. In fact, he didn't start putting two words together until he was about 3 1/2 years old! Now, that my daughter has been diagnosed with fluid, (she is 20 months old), it leads me to think that my nephew's speech delay was because of his fluid also. He is now talking in complete sentences. But, he still says some of his words funny or slurred. ??? For instance, my husband's name is James and he pronounces it "Sames".I had a lot of fluid in my ears when preschool/kindergarten. I had to do speech therapy when in kindergarten too. Your nephew I'm sure will start to get the letters right over time. Sometimes I think I may talk funny still from it but probably just me. But glad they caught your daughters at that young age. I think its better to catch it earlier then later (though I'm sure sometimes its one of those things where it doesn't show up till later), and they can start working on her speech now.
We have found out that the company that provides Abby's speech therapy has a new policy - the therapist can only come out to our house 1 time per week. I was so upset to hear this, that I contacted an additional speech therapist whose office is 30 minutes away from our house. I have arranged for Abby to go see the 2nd speech therapist 2 times a week. So, Abby will now have 2 speech therapists. One will be coming to our house once a week. And Abby will be seeing the 2nd one at her office twice a week. So, basically, Abby will get speech therapy 3 times a week which I think is great! Wish us luck with both therapists - we have not met either one yet!!
With continued therapy that should get better. you know I had totally forgotten I had to get speech therapy when I was in early grade school because I didn't say certain words correctly either. I have no idea why I had that problem. The therapist saw me at school and before the year was out I was saying my words correctly. So maybe this is more common then people think. I had alot of allergies as a child (still do actually). I remember being so miserably with my allergies in school I would just lay my head on the desk cause I felt so bad.
Great! Praying this all works out...mom_of_four

Abby has been pulling on her ears for about 3 weeks straight. I am sure it is because of the fluid inside them. That has to be a miserable feeling! Poor baby. Anyway, I called the allergy specialist that found the fluid to see what he thinks about her tugging on her ears. He said that he wants to see her this morning. So, I will be taking her there today. She has a 9:45 am appointment. Please be in agreement with me and pray that her fluid level will be better this time when he looks at it. I am hoping for good news![]()
I pray you will get good news.![]()
I will be praying for you and your little girl Abby...I pray that God will give her healing and continue to straightnen her back and that she will start talking and etc. God is faithful and he does perform miracles everyday and I will be praying that for you and Abby. I pray that God will wrap his arms around you and give you comfort and strength for everyday. You will be lifted up.. God Bless you and yours!

Well, we got good new and bad - The bad news is that her fluid is still very bad and has not improved AT ALL!! And she is going to be having tubes put in her ears in May to correct this problem. The good news is that the doctor ran a test on her ears while we were there and he says that the level of fluid in her ears is why she isn't talking. He said that with tha tmuch fluid in her ears, everything sounds very muffled and there is no way she could hear anything clear enough to learn to say words. So, he truly believes that when the tubes are put in that she will start talking very soon afterwards! I will keep you all posted.
Precious. Her world will change significantly when she hears. Will pray for her.
Poor baby, fluid in the ear has got to be miserable.
I will be glad when this procedure is over, and to hear she is talking up a storm.![]()
I am glad they found the source of the problem...of course that can cause language delays but I think she will learn quickly and catch up to where she should be as soon as her ears clear up. Poor baby. Glad its getting fixed! Of course that means when you wash her hair or bath her (not sure how you wash her up with the cast on her) you will have to put ear plugs in to keep the water out. Not easy with a little one that doesn't like things in their ears.
Praying it all goes well when the time comes.
God bless

We have been having to give her sponge baths since November because of her casting. It is a long process and takes about 30 minutes just to bath her because of the all the prepping (cutting out holes in a trash bag, placing it over her head to cover her chest, taping any gaps in the bag with black electrical tape, etc.)that we have to do just to get her ready to take the sponge bath - big job! BUT, she is getting the cast off on May 11th and will not get it back on until sometime this Fall. So, she will get to take baths in the big tub! As for her ears, we are going to be buying earplugs from the ENT that are formfitted to her ears. As long as she has these in, she can take baths without worries. As for keeping them in her ears - hmmm that will be interesting. She will just have to get used to it. Maybe I can distract her with tub toys - she loves rubber ducks and boatsGlad its getting fixed! Of course that means when you wash her hair or bath her (not sure how you wash her up with the cast on her) you will have to put ear plugs in to keep the water out.![]()
