Who have I in heaven but You oh God? Besides You, I desire nothing here on earth. My heart and my flesh may fail me, but God will be the strength of my heart and my portion forever...as for me, the nearness of God is my good - Psalm 73:25-26, 28a

Lulled into "inactivity" by our love for happiness, pleasure, entertainment, and ease. Seems all this can be summed up in one word = Distraction!
Good article Pilgrim.
When we can get past "our" happiness and face what makes God happy... then we can also DO what makes God happy and then for us... we will experience "fulfillment" and then we'll know what true happiness really is.
Usually LESS brings us MORE happiness when we DO God's will!!
The scriptures tell us the only necessities in life are food, clothes, and shelter, and to therewith be content.
The scriptures tell us that we need to learn to be content, in whatsoever state we are in.
The scriptures tell us to let our manner of living to be without selfish desires, and to be content with such things as we have.
The scriptures tell us to beware of selfish desires, for our life does not consist in the abundance of things we possess.
The scriptures tell us to seek those things above where Christ sits on the right hand of God.
The scriptures tell us to set our affections on things above, not on things on the earth.
The scriptures tell us that hope that is seen is not hope.
The scriptures tell us to not look for things that are seen, because they are only temporal.
The scriptures tell us we do not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
The scriptures tell us that we are to worship the Lord our God, and Him only are we to serve.
Excellent story. The truth is, all of what we have can be stripped away in an instant by something that happens every day. I read recently that in 1859 there was a solar flare of such immense size and strength that had it happened today it would have blinded most of the satellites in orbit and disrupted worldwide communications for weeks if not months.
Imagine that. No TV, major power outages, no wireless and probably no wired communications for a time. All a result of something that happens all the time.
We do take everything for granted - maybe even God. How quickly would all the people who are disdainful towards Christianity fill up the churches in such a situation?
I don't want to launch into a diatribe about our world because most people know how bad things are right now. The question is rather, what should we do about it? How do we make things better for the largest number of people?
Those are the things we should be contemplating, preparing and acting on before something happens that will force us to do so.
You know my thoughts are if that were to happen i believe more people would turn to God, when everything is stripped and we have nothing but ourselfs and family God would come back in their lives again.
I agree technology can destroy people if not used appropriatly, but most of us forget who has even given us technology the lord. He can give but he can also take away. We must put the lord first and, think him for what he has given us, it is because of him we live so we must live for him.
In response to the "Aftermath" I TOTALLY AGREE with it! And when I saw Longsufferer's response to it as well, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE! As a matter of fact, I think 'Longsufferer's response should have been an extension of the 10 Commandments.....maybe the "10 Commandments" should have been '100 Commandments'!![]()
Great article Pilgrim. Makes one really think about things. Thanks for sharing.
