    Bible (vector) Clipart

Im on the hunt for Bible maps and clipart in vector format. There are plenty of jpeg images out there but I want a format that can be imported into Coreldraw and edited, added to, etc. At this moment Im trying to create a map showing the boundaries of the 12 tribes of Israel. - dont want to re-invent the wheel if its already been done.

Does anyone know where I could get (buy? download?) a CD containing this sort of stuff?

    Thanks

You and me both. The last one I saw a few years back was so basic it may as well have been done with a 1/2" crayon. If you do ever find something, I would love to know too.

You can use CorelDRAW to vectorize any bitmap image. Once you import the image (jpg, png, bmp, etc), go to the menu "Bitmap->QuickTrace" and volia.

    Enjoy...

There is some software I found called "BibleMapper", but honestly, I'm not sure how well it would do what you want. There is a free version which is what I got and would suggest until you are sure it is something you would want. It's kinda tricky to say the least. The big auto map it has is difficult because in order to get the whole map, I copied it a window visible part at a time, moving it across one copy and paste at a time until I had the whole map in a photo editor and something I could write on. But I got it,...finally.

What I just tried to do was put the part of the map that has Israel in the window of the Bible Mapper software, copied it, (by going into edit/ then copy..and then pasted it into Corel Draw the same way once in Corel Draw, which worked, then converted it to a bitmap, so it worked, I'm just not sure about this software, while you can make a map with it, you may have a nervous break down during the process.

One thing that you can do with the software, is choose what you want written on it, well, some. Like you can choose the time frame, and tell it then if you want major cities, and minor cities water ways, mountains ... and so on. Actually a lot that it will put on there if you want it. Or, you can un-check everything and have a blank map and go from there, that is what I was doing. I have not made one with the twelve tribes or I would be glad to give it to ya, and you are welcome to the blank map I have, but the part where Israel is, is to small, probably, for what you want.

I can try to make a bigger one and will work on that, but can't promise cause I never know with this stuff, I'm certainly no expert...lol

I don' think there is any way to make a map that isn't completely frustrating...lol

Hey, thanks for the replies and QD for the PM. Since posting this I managed to get what I wanted regarding the 12 tribes but I have a feeling that I probably did it the hard way. Took me ages.

Probably Ill be back in the future trying with a new picture.

Ah computer software programs. Made to make life easy for us mortals - yeah, right.

Well, while l like the Bible Mapper, I mean, it's difficult to fuss about something that they are kind enough to offer for free, but it is a little tricky, especially to get the part of the map you want.

I was trying to make a map having the ancient names and the modern names of the ME countries. I eventually got one pretty much together but it was a challenge.

Good luck with any further map making you do... and let us know...If I can help, be glad to, I have Corel Draw and Paint. I was more familiar with the Draw, now the Paint. I just have not used the Draw in a while.

I work a lot with CorelDraw but I don't think I've ever used the Quicktrace function. Earlier incarnations of that did not seem to do anything useful. I'll usually just digitize maps by tracing linework, polygons, points and so forth. If we need serious vectorizing we farm it out to another company specializing in that - they use AutoCAD.

If you've got a map, I can have a look at it and see what it might take.

That sounds more complicated than the simple things I play with at home, I just go under the 'bitmap' thing on the menu bar and click 'convert to bitmap'. There are options then that you can choose from, like your color, and so on. But like I said, I have not messed with the Draw in a while, not particularly 'creative' lately I guess...lol

I think downloadable vector art would be very helpful.

Imagine how useful it would be for youth pastors, church newsletters secretaries, Sunday Schools teachers etc. to obtain Bible story pictures in a format that could be imported into CorelDraw. Vector would be so much more useful than gif because it would allow a non-professional artists (like me) to edit an existing picture, change colour etc.

I think it would be great. I wish I could actually draw, but...that just was not in the plan for me...lol

I do have some clip art stuff. Usually everything but what I am looking for...lol. But if you need a 'part' or something let me know, I'll see if I have it, like a sword or something, whatever, who knows I may have it. And you can put stuff together maybe. Idk, but I'll help if I can.
