    Re: My Step-Mom: Cancer

JoAnn has been out of surgery for several hours and is doing fine. They say the operation was a success - they removed all the cancerous tissue except the microscopic stuff the chemo will, hopefully, take care of.

She'll be very pleased when she gets the news, as she was hoping for a little more time to prepare for her passing. She'll need a couple more courses of chemo, about 3wks each.

So, thanks very much for all your concern and prayer, which has truly been answered.

    And, Praise the Lord.
    Stephen

I posted a similar response in Praise, but wanted to get the message out.

    Thanks again

JoAnn is doing very well today, although she is still in hosp. It looks like they might send her home Wednesday at the latest. She's had a rough recovery period, but there are no outstanding problems and she's been off the morphine for a day. Just waiting for her digestion to kick in properly.

Further chemo beginning in about 3 weeks - two courses of 3wks each.

She sounds great and is very grateful things have gone so well.

Your prayers have all been graciously answered.

    Thanks much

    And Lord Bless

    Re: My Step-Mom: Cancer

It's been a welcome reprieve for JoAnn, who looks, sounds and feels much better. But there is strong evidence the cancer has returned in the presence of chronic abdominal pain, particularly in her lower ribs.

They have decided against more chemo at this stage but will reevaluate in January.

She's been very active - she gathers firewood from the cache in the backyard and runs it through the splitter and things like that, and has been busy with all the grandkids etc. This will no-doubt be a great Christmas for her after what she's been through.

    Thanks, and Lord Bless!

    Re: My Step-Mom: Cancer

Cancer has certainly plagued many this season.

Cat Scans today reveal two masses in JoAnn's liver.

Decisions will be made between between two possible courses of chemo over the next several weeks.

She's been doing well despite the chronic pain in her ribs and is not eating as well as she was after recovering from her first year of chemo and surgery.

But she is emotionally well and has always been strong. We talk regularly about eternal life and I' m confident her faith is in Christ alone though she often speaks of her unworthiness.

Joann is very moved, knowing folks here have been praying for her, and she is a grateful recipient of Miepie's prayer and card ministry.

    Thanks and Lord Bless

    Re: My Step-Mom: Cancer

Today's more thorough exam reveals one external tumor on her liver, one on her diaphragm and a third in her lower abdomen. The masses do not show up on tests other than Ca-tScans.

The plan is to begin chemo next Wednesday, once a week for three weeks, with one month rest, then continue with the course. During that time close examinations will be done to determine if the chemo is effective and a change in medications or adjustments might be made.

I'll make an another unannounced trip home and drop in on her during that time, Lord Willing.

JoAnn is overwhelmed by the prayers and concerns of those here.

    Thanks and Lord Bless

    Re: My Step-Mom: Cancer

Stephen, I am so, SO sorry to hear this news. Cancer is the worst disease on the face of the earth. I am praying for her. I wish I could do more. I am sorry for anyone who has to endure chemo treatments..... May God bless her yet again, and give her strength.
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)
