Tithing?

I came to Christ almost 2 years ago, I have never tithed but recently have been feeling very convicted. I grew up not having much money and so now I cling to it...I know God wants me to trust Him more.

I was wondering what my options are. Is tithing only for giving to my church? Can I tithe to organizations? Does anyone have suggestions of whom I can tithe to?

I'm feeling kind of lost here..

As some have said, the "tithe" was an elelment of the Old Covenant law. It was in part how ancient Israel worked. And many have tried to impose the "tithe" upon the church; and as part of such an imposition, they have tried to make those who don't "tithe" feel quilty. Please realize that there is a difference between giving and "tithing". The tithe was an Old Testament commandment; giving from the heart has always been acceptable to God. The church operates under the New covenant, and there is no place in the New Testament where the tithe is commanded of those in the church.

Now, giving is both good and commanded, but the amount is up to you, and what you are able to give. Don't let those who misunderstand the tithe, and try to play the guilt card on you, make you feel guilty about how much you give. Such persons are just like those that tried to compel people to get circumcised. They want to lead you into legalistic bondage. God wants you to give, but first one must pay his essential bills and support his family. After that, then one should give from what is left. Remember, giving should be from the heart and not by compulsion. If you are being compeled to tithe, then you are being misled. Avoid such persons.

The word "tithe" means 10% so any giving below or above 10% of your
increase can be considered an offering. Since the Lord is dealing
with you about tithing, then you should be obedient to the promptings
of the Holy Spirit. It's His job to lead and direct the way we should
go.

If you are not sure about where to give your tithe, start by giving
it to your church. I am a big fan of journaling so you can write or
type a question to the Holy Spirit about where He would like you
to give your tithe. If He can convict you about tithing, He can
certainly tell you where He wants you to plant it.

Tithing is one of the few scriptures where God told the descendents
of Jacob to test Him (Mal 3:6-12). It was a call for them to repent.
By tithing, He promised to abundantly take care of them.

Since you are "clinging to money", it has become more important to
you than God. By giving up 10%, you prove to yourself and God that
He will come first. He wants you to grow and develop spiritually and
to do this, you will simply have to step out on faith and trust
that He is big enough to meet your financial needs.
