FireFox 4.0 is driving me nutty..

They completely changed everything and now I can't find anything... And yes I did their review on the changes they made but don't remember much of it..which is why I so dislike it when browsers or other programs make major changes...they think we are going to remember their review and they think people have time to spend watching reviews every time something on their computer updates...grrrrrr.

So anyway my first question is where IS the refresher button? I did a search and someone said to hit the F5 key to refresh a page but that is a pain...I like being able to just click it on the browsers. I didn't realize how much I refresh certain sites until I had to do it this way...

    Thanks

Don't know, but thanks for posting this. Was planning to do the 'upgrade' later today... will hold off for now... enough challenges in life without messing up my browser.

Hope you get used to it soon, and can share the hidden knowledge with the rest of us.

I like it. It's more simple. There is a spinning arrow just to the right of the address bar that will reload the page.

Right click on the toolbar menu at the top then select "customize". Drag the refresh button onto where you want it. Also check all the stuff in the "customize" menu and it will look like your old Firefox.

AwG...it also doesn't work with some of the add on's you might have. It informed me of that after I had installed it... I lost my yahoo bar which I like for being able to see the temperature outside..along with other things. I was able to get it on the next day but the temperature thing isn't working quite right..I have to refresh the tool bar to get it to show the current temp. Never had to do that before. I was able to put on just icons I wanted, like my mail and my facebook. Its also not showing me when I get new emails like it did with the old one. So I have to remember to check my email once in awhile...

Ok thanks I will try that! I do not like this new layout one bit... If I had time I was going to get rid of this one and go back to the old one but I haven't had time to do that.

    God bless

Question Re: FireFox 4.0 is driving me nutty..

The biggest benefit I see (claimed anyway) is a speed increase. Did you notice pages loading faster?

I did not quite understand what you were saying, but I found a site that explains it step by step and my firefox 4 now looks like the old forefox 3. Nice.

I like the v4.0. After tweaking it to the way I want it... NICE!

Personally one of the biggest things that urk me is the replacing the menu bar with that drop down.

To get The menu bar back - Right click on the 'Firefox' drop down and click 'Menu bar'

Or click The 'Firefox' drop down - Options (right hand side) - click 'Menu bar'

Once you have the menu bar back you can choose whether you like the tabs on top (Right under the Menu bar)
or on bottom (Right under the custom tool bar area).

View - Toolbars - Tabs on Top

Yeah... I got rid of that drop down menu immediately.

Still has plenty bugs though - One irritating little pest is you can't get those sticky things (pin as tab) to persist between browser restarts. Another is the location of add-ons. Same problem - it forgets the location on the task bar or wherever you put them.

This is why you should ditch firefox and go with Chrome...

I don't even understand the customize options... Let alone remember how it looked before. And no I don't see it loading pages any faster..in fact it show a small screen on the left hand side of the screen when a page is loading. Its distracting and unneeded. Why do I need to see that? And my yahoo tool bar or whatever you call it still isn't working correctly.

Still doesn't show when I have a new email..and doesn't update the temperature outside. I have to click to refresh that tool bar to see the correct temperature. The reason this is needed is my son and I check that alot..I check it in the morning so I know how cold is it when we are going to be leaving for school...do I need to warn up the car? Do we need jackets on? Later if he going out..bike riding or whatever he wants to know the current temperature so he knows how to dress. One time he rode his bike to his grandparents and froze the whole way... So we use that alot..but like I said its no longer updating on its own and has to be manually refreshed.

Also firefox completely froze up on me a couple of days after downloading this new FF and took forever to even close..so my computer with stuck with a white screen for 10-15 minutes. I thought I was going to have to push the power button to shut down the computer as it completely covered my start button so I couldn't even get to the icons to restart it. That was a really bad crash. Hope it doesn't happen again! I also hope they are getting swamped with complaints and will being the older version back! Still thinking about deleting this one...but only if I can get the older one back.

Also I have been having problems with google since downloading this updated browser....which I don't understand why it would affect google. What is happening is this. When I type in a word to search on google it starts listing possible word choices along with websites before I ever hit search...which is cool but lately if I do hit search anyway, it goes back to any previous word I was searching before which is very irritating. It shouldn't do that. Before it didn't matter if I hit search or not..it didn't go back to any previous search I had done. I use google alot just to check my spelling and its remembering all those words and going backwards...instead of searching the new word I put in. Would this have anything to do with FF or it is just google being weird?
