    Re: Heavy Metal Music

yes i listen to AC/DC, yes i listen to Eminem, not so much Ga Ga to be honest i do have one of her albums but i would not say i was a fan.

My thing is those are not my words, they are not what i want from my life hence they have no power over me.

and as for "highway to hell" having any spiritual powers because you can remember the words... you have my kudos for being able to actually understand them i can't and second hasn't it ever occurred to you that maybe it's just catchy?

Catchy? Sure... thus the lure and we're caught, hook/line/sinker

Not your words? Do you sing them out loud? It's your tongue repeating them... so, you can "think" they are not your words... if our tongue could not speak curses, the Bible would not warn us of this fact... that the tongue CAN.

This is between you and God. When He convicted me and I finally surrendered to that conviction, THEN He began to explain WHY and He walked me through scriptures and pointed out what the meaning of cursing and blessing is all about.

i think right now in my life God knows there are a few more importent things i need to work on besides he music i listen too.

Amen, I was several years into my relationship with God, in Christ when out of the blue I was asked... "ARE YOU?"

There was quite alot of work done in me before THAT work, that He began in me the day He asked me that simple question. Many more since then also and expecting many more in the future as He does His work in me.

There is always a need for sarcasm whenever someone suggests that a band that sings "Highway to Hell" and "Hell's bells" is good music for Christians to listen to.

Drugs, Alcohol, and pretty young women are all catchy. If you think it is OK for Christians to listen to "Highway to hell," about all I can say is we have so little in common there is little point in even discussing the issue.

I can understand the words to about anything released prior to y2k.

yeah i'd say we have pretty much nothing in common but the world would be pretty boring if we all thought alike right?

This is an area I feel all Christians will go through during their walk. You see, ACTION speaks louder than words and God knows this but so does satan. The world is looking for Christians who "talk" the talk BUT through their example in action... don't "walk" the walk that they speak about. satan exploits this... so he does all he can to blind Christians and keep them in a double-minded relationship with God so he CAN exploit the Body of Christ, against God.

We preach God but walk half in the Spirit and half in the world... we do more for satan this way as he'll exploit us as Christians before all in the world and push people away from God when he's pointing out just how hypocritical so many Christians actually are. Some Christian's are so bad at this, God has a term for them that is not Christianese and that word is... lukewarm.

Given the fact that i am less then a year into my new Christian life i think it's pretty understandable that i am "lukewarm" or what ever you want to call me. I don't feel convicted to change what i listen too but i do feel convicted to change a lot of things i struggle with. i am 27 i am sure by the time i am 40 i won't be listening to that stuff any more.

There is more to lukewarm than what you just said. I've read your other threads concerning your desire to seek God... you are not lukewarm. Not many, if any really... are running when they accept Christ. Sure, they may have that first love and be "hot" but God waits for this initial boiling to settle down before He begins to lead them in His ways.

It's like a meal cooked in the mircowave for 4 minutes compared to a meal that begins the night before with preparation of the elements of the meal, the marinade, the combining of elements so they can combine in flavor and strengthen in flavor. Then item by item, brought together in a very specific order and method for maximum use of all available flavors of all the elements and then slow cooked for the perfect product that is to be served.

God is molding you to be served... in other words... used by Him for His glory. He's not gonna nuke you to get you hot but unprepared and without flavor and send you out into the world... you won't nourish (FEED) anyone you speak to... you'll just fill them up which is nothing but good feelings.

So do you want to feed and nourish those that God will lead you to or do you just want to fill them up and make them feel good?

Do you yourself, want to be nourished as you are FED or do you just want to be filled up with good feelings?

Can anyone in this thread honestly say that at the exact moment they were 'saved,' they realized every 'issue' in their life and fixed it? It's 'spiritual growth' for a reason, and we all grow at different paces. I would question why 'the sound' thinks he won't be listening to AC/DC when he's 40, either he's saying this for some strange reason, 'just because,' or he sincerely feels that at 40 he won't be listening to AC/DC, which makes me wonder why he's listening to them at all (right now). In any case, there's been some 'good guidance' in general... But to me it reads like a 'you need to change everything this very instant!' sort of tone.

The reason I'm pointing out how over MANY years, step by step, conviction by conviction God will mold us.

Believe me, 10 years ago... "I'm on the highway to hell"... YEAH, play it again and LOUDER!!!!!! Come Sunday... "How great thou art..." Come Monday... "I'm on the highway to hell..."! Come Sunday... "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me..."! Come Monday... "I'm on the highway to hell...!

I bet there are some who'll be singing, "Im on the highway to hell" as they travel TO Sunday service :rolleyes"

For me as I was "finally" convicted... is an example of being double-minded and being in this state is not good for the relationship that God is trying to have with them.

That's great! And to be clear, I'm not advocating the songs... Just the idea that spiritual growth is progressive.
