    Re: To speak of fasting.

    Hi Amos_with_goats,
I have much experience with fasting, it seems to be my "gift", but like you, I don't talk about it much. It is not the gifting of those whom I am in fellowship with or with anyone else that I know. So, it's a personal thing...but I was drawn to this thread.

I started experimenting with fasting 16 years ago. Back then, it was for health issues. But now, God will call me to fast, most of the time I don't know why, but sometimes He shows me. I used to struggle with that, but then I gave that to God too. I figure, if I need to know why, He'll show me, and if I don't, He won't. It's His business, not mine...I just need to be obedient.

I don't know what else to share, it's always seemed so personal, but if you have questions, I'll try to answer them.

    In His Love,
    Dorothy

It is a joy to hear your testimony in this. I DO know what you mean when you speak of those who you fellowship with.. it is interesting where and when we are able to share. I actually had hesitation about starting this thread... even to talk about talking about such a thing is hard, and I suspect some have read and elected not to post for that reason.

I will say that one of the most amazing passages of Scripture is Exodus 32:32. Moses was willing to forfeit his own reward.. his very salvation (his name being blotted out of the Book of Life)... for the sake of those He served.

I think in what manner we speak of it when we speak of it makes a difference as to whether you invalidiate it or not. What I mean is this: if you speak of it to impress people (ie., "I am/did fast for ____ days") then you are boasting and invalidating your reward from God. If, OTOH, you speak of it as a sharing of experience or encouragement to another or simply so someone knows to stop asking you to eat something, I don't believe you invalidate your fast in God's eyes. You do not have to be a Secret Agent Faster! Speak of it in the same manner you speak of tithing (unless you have a habit of boasting about THAT) or of Bible reading (same caveat). Spiritual Disciplines are falling into disuse because those who do them have been made to believe they can not even whisper them in secret to another without losing their reward from heaven. The Devil is such a liar.

One thing about Fasting for me: If it is God ordained, it is 'easy' to stick too, but when it is of my own self.... I fail
Fenris: "There are two ways to shoot an arrow into a bulls-eye You can shoot the arrow into the bulls-eye or you can shoot the arrow and paint the bulls-eye wherever it hits"

Romans 12:19 Don't seek revenge ... give place to God's wrath. For it is written "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord"

    Isa. 30:32
And every blow of the rod of punishment, which the Lord will lay on him, will be with the music of tambourines and lyres; And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them

G_d was gracious He has shown favor

What are you willing to die for? Now live for it!

Moses had an attitude we could all learn from. He wasn't into spiritual "competition" When told that another was prophesying his response was "I would that all of God's people were prophets" All we do,even fasting, should be for the body of Christ and it's head. When seeing a gift in another,we should be able to partake of it in joy, instead of feeling envious.
Lord, one thing I ask...use me for your glory.
