I can agree with that, ive had my $0 costing simple nkjv for 6 years now, its still in mint shape, however given to another person it could not last that long, however if you do tend to wear out your bible fast i would highly recommend not buying any with a high price, unless it is a personal bible used only in home/personal times where its lifespan can be withheld possibly....haha and for some people, out of the dogs reach ^^

The most I spent is $200 for a facsimile (not a modern reprint) of the 1599 Geneva Bible.

I paid $85 for mine because it was the only edition available in that translation with full translator notes. If I could have found it cheaper elsewhere, I would have. I wouldn't spend lots of money just to have a piece of history or to have a fancy leather cover.

There is a "you get what you pay for" factor in this. One of my more expensive Bibles I own I've had for over 20 years. Now I don't use it as much now and so I can't say for that whole 20 years I was constantly using it. But I did use it a lot for the first decade and It's still in decent shape. Frankly, the main reason I don't use it is it's a KJV and I bought it when I was a Textus-Receptus only kind of guy. Now I use NIV and ESV the most with some NASB sprinkled in.

I never buy bonded leather anymore. Sometimes I'll buy a hard cover if I'm buying a Bible just for it's study notes, i.e. I won't be carrying it around with me everywhere. If it's a Bible I'm carrying it around with me, I purchase a much higher quality leather Bible. It's worth it to me.

I think bonded leather has come to mean paper that had a little bit of leather ground up in it. Bonded used to be decent quality. Now, it is pretty much junk.
Genuine leather, calf skin, and lambskin seem to be the most durable of the non exotics. I have a new lambskin bible that is sitting in my spare room deodorizing. The leather smells so strong I can not take being abound it.

It's not the dollar sticker value, it's what's inside it and what value you put on it. This is for your mother. You know her pretty well, don't you? Buy her a Bible you know she would read and study and enjoy for years to come. Pray about it and let God lead you.
    Even so, come Lord Jesus!

No,it's not the sticker price I'm concerned with. I just looked up the publisher's website and noticed the high priced bibles. I guess like everything else,in all professions there are high priced items in everything.

The last bible I bought was a NKJV that was on sale for 99 cents.

The one I bought before that was a NKJV and it cost me around $65.00 and it was the most I had even spent on one that I can remember.

Heck, when I was a kid people used to just hand out bibles to people, some of them Really nice ones too, for free.

$500.00 + for a bible? No way. I'd buy a cheap one and donate the rest if it came down to it.
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Here's a link just for fun. This is a link to all of CBD's Bibles sorted by price highest to lowest. I'd say don't only look at CBD's price, but look at the retail price.

I know the word of God is valuable, but at the cost of unaffordable is pretty bad. I've paid at the most $70 for one of mine, and it'a fine study bible. I'm curious to know how much more knowledge of the word a $500 bible has as opposed to a $50 or lesser vaule one has?
Oh don't be so cheap, break down and buy her one of these:

Just out of curiosity, what led you to abandon the Textus Receptus only position?

I have also seen some exotic skin bibles that cost more than $500. I saw an alligator skin bible one time. I have heard of rattle snkae and Cobra skin bibles.
A snakeskin bible huh? Now that seems apropos for the situation...but then, could you trust it?....Just sayin'...

I once brought one of them 'stone tablet' thingies, had just ten lines of some weird righting [sic] on it. The guy said he found it in some box stored away somewhere...let me have have it for a few shekels. I dropped it and lost a couple lines of 'righting' [sic], but it still looks good on the wall....I think the guys name was Erin, but he sure didn't sound Irish to me....
