Been there. Time for a thorough physical check-up, explaining to the Md exactly what's happening.

Right. But it could be important enough to warrant the cost, and you might be addressing something early enough to remedy it.

I had thyroid and other problems that would cause me to wake in a cold sweat - heart pounding and scared to death - high blood pressure, rapid pulse etc.

But it could be any number of things, and your pretty young. A complete blood-work, though costly, will likely be necessary.

I'll pray for you about this.

It could also be a generalized anxiety deal. Do you have anxiety about things when you're awake as well? I agree with IM, as it could be anything and if it's a simpler medical fix like suggested, all the better. That it's only at night seems to suggest it's psychological but there could be physical factors driving it, especially if your naps are very different length or otherwise wise.

If that's ruled out or if you can't do that right now, though. you can try to get some psychological counseling or evaluation. This site has a map of counties in your state that you can click on and find different places that provide need-based services to the community.

If you could go to the dr it would be good. There are walk in clinics that aren't as expensive as say, the Emergency room, so that might be a thought.

Let me ask you, do you have a lot of caffeine or sugar in your diet? My son was getting a lot of anxiety attacks, but he was drinking a lot of coffee. When he stopped, they stopped as well.
Examine your diet and maybe do some exercise too.

I have had that happen to me twice. Once in my late twenties when my living arrangements changed and I had many more responsibilities and no moral support and about 30 yrs. later under the same circumstances. It was anxiety that went away when I adjusted.

    Hi Sound -

It could be any number of things that is effecting you.

Try the obvious ones first. Look closely at your diet - as someone else has said, caffeine will have bizarre effects on the body. So will sugar - your blood sugar can plummet, especially during the night with no regular food intake, and cause full out panic attacks. A healthy diet coupled with regular exercise will go a long way to helping.

If this does continue, please go to a doctor. I know what you mean about insurance but call the local public assistance office and see if there are places that will either check you out for nothing or at least for very little.

I'll be praying for this to improve -

I do deal with anxiety a lot in my waking life... Not all the time but in public places a lot, if my mind slips to some of the unpleasant things I tend to dwell on then I start to panic some. I don't know some times it just happens for no reason. But I have had that... well at least since I was a freshmen in high school. Like I can remember sitting in class and then out of now where my heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my wrists.

But thank you for the link I will deffinitly take a look at it.

Wow I didn't even think of that. I have cut down drastically on my soda in take over the past year may be it has something to do with that.

yeah that could be it too... my life has felt very much out of control this year... a lot of things are changing and I have been really disappointed (more so then usual) with some of my choices this year.

For sure I will start keeping a journal of what I eat when I eat and my soda in take for the day.

I have gone to a clinic for a different reason... it was like a 2 month wait and when I got there they gave me a referral for a specialist with no way for me to afford it. I think that figured I had some kind of assistance from the state which I don't. I have thought about trying to get it but I don't have any kids so I don't think I would get it.
This time of year is very hard for me. I am out of work until the end of august. Of course I am looking a better job in my field with benefits but these are hard times for where I live so everyone is laying off and not hiring. But thank you for the prayers

I wonder if it could be related to a sleep apnea?
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.
