    Lester Roloff

I was wondering if anybody was familiar with the story of Lester Roloff and his homes for boys and girls? He passed away in a plane crash the year before I was born (1982), but his sermons and story are still around. Has anybody else been blessed by that man's life and testimony?

He was born in 1914 and died in 1982. He went to prison for operating his homes without a state mandated license, even though he wasn't receiving state funds and he wasn't charging anybody for its operation. It's quite a story. You can see his life story on youtube.com

I haven't heard of him but I did spend five years in a boys home while growing up. It was called Memphis Boys Town. I was there from age 10 to age 15 when my father remarried. I was then able to go and live with him. That time of my life was filled with almost unbearable rejection and pain. I received emotional and physical scars there. In fact I was physically scarred for life. I think the Lord has dealt with most of my emotional issues but I guess I still need my corners swept out.
The place wasn't so bad in itself. We had plenty of food and even a swimming pool. But it was filled with trauma for me. When I was about 6 or 7 I remember collecting toys for the "toys for tots" program. This was before my mom abandoned me. They gave them to rejected and disowned children. One day after i was in the home for about a year I remember thinking..."I am now one of THEM" It really busted me up. There were some good things there though. There was this lady who came out every week on Wen. nights and taught us the scriptures. I really think she laid a good biblical foundation for my life. Otherwise I would have been raised a catholic. The worst thing that can possibly happen to a kid is rejection by a parent. It can warp you for life...without Jesus.
Lord, one thing I ask...use me for your glory.

haha, sorry about the "impatience." I was just shocked when nobody was answering. I just believe him to be one of the greatest evangelists of the 20th century and his story is motivating and powerful.

I was only saved for a couple years when Roloff was taken home to be with the Lord. I'll have to check the sermon tapes at church to see if he ever spoke there, I suspect that he did but I don't recall with certainty.

I do recall his ministry and know he was a man of God worthy of the name.

His preaching was quite powerful and I love his music and singing. He taught all the boys and girls to sing and brought them with him to his speaking engagements.

I had not heard about him before you posted this. I just finished listening to a sermon of his called "The Axehead". He reminds a lot of Paris Reidhead.
    Appreciate you mentioning him.
