Sadly, it happens all the time.

Re: Poll: Is Drinking wine a sin?

The only time drinking wine is a sin other than by getting drunk through excess, is when a believer that does drink wine and not get drunk, is drinking in front of a known alcoholic, causing the person to stumble.

Love requires to abstain from drinking around those that are weak, including not having alcohol on your breath as they can tell you had been drinking before you met with them. Such telltale signs can trigger temptations.

One cannot avoid it if you are drinking in a public place and you do not know if an alcoholic is there: then it is the alcoholic fault for being in a place that sells liquor: of course, if you see a "christian" brother or sister that is an alcoholic, mayhap the Lord directed your footsteps there to lead him or her away from temptation in the spirit of meekness. Otherwise: you would still be exhorted not to drink in front of him or her if you know they are alcoholics. Love requires to drink non-alcoholic beverages in front of them. And if they are drinking alcohol anyway: continue to set the example for him: otherwise, drinking alcohol in front of him or her will just re-enforce his or her rationalization towards God that it is okay to get drunk, seeing how you were drinking too, even though you are not getting drunk.

It is a bummer for those that have self control to watch out for those that do not: but that is walking in Christ's love.

I do not drink alcohol on a regular business as I do not like it hardly at all, but sometimes I will have a little wine. I still fail to see the appeal, but I trust my Good Shepherd to help me not to cause any brother to stumble by doing so.

You did not give the option in your answers.

Drinking wine without getting drunk is never a sin.

I would have selected that answer. Drinking wine is in itself not sin. Becoming drunk is sin. Many people drink without getting drunk.

    Through excess of wine.

Ephesians 5:1818And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;...

That is a whole lot different from this reference below:

1 Timothy 5:23Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. 24Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

A little wine is not an excess by which believers would be drunken by. If they are, then their definition of little is circumspect.

Granted, some people cannot hold their liquor at all: if that is not referencing moderate drinking which is different from a "little wine", then do not drink moderately.

Since we are living in a sin fallen world and weaknesses of the flesh are sometimes manifested greater in some believers than others, then if a "little wine" causes one to drink to get drunk, or if by some quirk of a sin-fallen body that a little wine actually causes one to be drunk, then don't drink at all.

When a person cannot make a rational decision. For me, one glass of wine and my judgment is slightly impaired. Two glasses, and my judgment is more impaired. If I could drink a half-glass and leave the rest sit, I would not be drunk but I can't just drink a half-glass without finishing the rest of it. If I finish it, I'll 'want' another. Personally, I don't go there.

I could not, in all honesty, answer the poll. The right answer was not even given.

Guess what?? If you are slightly impaired... you are slightly drunk. It is not the last sip of wine that makes one drunk, it is the entirety of what one drinks.

Solomon wrote that it is not for kings to drink wine lest they forget the law and pervert the judgment of the wicked. Well, even 'slight impairment' will cause a person to forget the law and pervert judgment. Many will say "I only feel a slight buzz, I can handle another". Their judgment is already impaired.

Have you considered that your version of this could not have been true for God's Apostles? The Apostles drank wine, but in your view - they were sinning all the time that they did it. I would not think that we'd want to believe that Jesus' church was founded by sinners who recieved the approval of Jesus Himself.

And it gets really sticky when we realize that Jesus drank wine, too.

It is not I who is making Jesus a sinner. Jesus did not drink alcoholic wine, nor did He give alcoholic wine to anyone.

Somehow, I suspected that your answer would be along that line. I have heard legalistic preachers who tried to tell me that before, and then I read the bible about how the men of God in the bible got drunk with wine and how the Apostle Paul would give instructions to officials of the church in how much wine they can drink so that they don't get drunk. Your statement does not mesh with the word of the Bible, brother. The wine contained alchohol - the bible indicates such.

The wine that Jesus made did not contain any alcohol. The best study I have read is this of John McAthur where he explains the different meaning of the word "wine" througout the Bible.

Well i am not going to give you a blood percentage alcohol measure if that’s what you’re seeking.

I would say lest ones conscience decide. And if one tries to fool themselves then they do so in vain because no one can fool God.

I find it increasable that some want to claim that Jesus never drank or make alcohol wine. Talk about twisting scriptures to conform it to the traditions of men.

Of course Jesus drank wine and made wine. And the Jews drank wine for millennia before Jesus and after Jesus. Non alcoholic wine... please...

Can you please support this with scripture.

Also explain why a person who NEVER drank alcoholic fruit of the vine, was able to be accused of being a winebibber.

Please, just post the scriptures that show us that wine is non-alcoholic.

When you are done, I'll post all the scriptures that show us that wine IS alcoholic and then we'll see God's truth about this topic.
