OCCUPY'S NEXT MOVE: Occupy Foreclosed Homes!

This is outlandish! But the talk is that IS their next strategy!
    To Occupy foreclosed homes.....

    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

Re: OCCUPY'S NEXT MOVE: Occupy Foreclosed Homes!

I read somewhere re the number of empty houses in the US. The number was mind boggling. In China it's even worse with entire cities standing empty. Then I got to thinking "what happens next?" -

Well, basically rats move in. The place fall apart. No one does maintenance. Vagrants loot everything that is not bolted down (and even some thing that are) and pretty soon the entire area is useless for living in. The money to build these houses and cities has already been paid: the contractors, concrete, steel, timber, glass, fittings etc.... and with no people in them that will all go to waste. Seems pretty pointless to me.

So I had this naive thought - why not let people live there anyway? Is it really worse than the alternative?

    I'm just thinking aloud here.

Isn't that what they're preaching? Here in Vancouver their mantra is "Spread the wealth, no more private properties"...almost sounds like communism to me

Obedience to God is more than a soldier obeying his commander. It is our grateful response to the Lover of our souls.

CHURCH: Where worship is enjoyed, not endured - Grace is preached, not legalism - And Christ is exalted, not religion!

Great idea, Comrade. Next thing you know, you'll be saying that excess food should be sent to starving people instead of being thrown away! Will this socialist madness never end????

A few years back I read they dumped an entire ship load of potatoes [probably 20 farms worth] in the sea because there was a glut on the market at the time and it would have driven the market prices down. Heaven forbid they took that food to the townships and orphanages and give it to the starving kids and widows ... and dare I even say, for just the cost of the transport to get it there. That would have been akin to blasphemy in the eyes of capitalism. Dumping it in the ocean was definitely the only course of action to keep the market prices stable.

Meaning...give us the foreclosed homes with no payment for them...Just GIVE them to us???? (Of course, the next thing they would want is the electricity paid, the water bill paid, pay someone to mow the grass and then when winter comes, they would want the heat supplied FREE also????

I have a new, more appropriate name for them....FLEA BAGGERS! Or maybe...the FLEA PARTY!

Its too bad the real issue of the foreclosure mess will never see the light.

On the one hand you have only the most extreme portions of the Occupy movement getting media attention.
On the other hand you have those who want someone to focus their moral outrage at.

In the middle is a massive and shameful misappropriation of public funds and trusts. Failing banks were infused with obscene bail outs funded by John Q Public with the sole purpose of maintaining liquidity in the marketplace. Because the bail outs were structured with such idiocy, it actually encouraged banks to foreclose on people. Here in Illinois, whole neighborhoods are being sold at pennies on the dollar and the banks received full market value in compensation from the bail out bills. I was presented an offer from a real estate buddy to buy a house for $12,000 and rent it back to the previous owner because the bank wouldn't negotiate with him. Why would they? To the bank, its a question of being handed $100,000 now or $500 every month for the next couple decades.

Ultimately, investigating the broken pieces of the system takes a lot of hard work and thought. It also requires the humility of listening to a multitude of different perspectives. Belittling people pays off now though, so lets just do that.

A great opportunity to revolutionize the church into a more communal supporting type of group. The middle class is shrinking fast. This is good for the church. rejoice in all things!

The "Occupy" movement has presented an unprecedented opportunity for the church to be involved in social dialog. What better opportunity for the church to underscore man's fallen nature and the bankruptcy of materialism? On the one hand you have banks, large corporations, and governments rife with greed, pride, and little concern for the human condition. On the other hand you have people hungry for justice, fairness, value, and meaning in a world increasingly telling them these things come from material.

But as far as I can see, the only context Christian culture discusses the Occupy movement at all, is as a cheap stepping stone to false feeling of moral superiority.

Someone remind me why Christianity is culturally relevant?

I think this is just the beginning of a trend towards an awakening realization that times are changing rapidly. It may take the majority in the church awhile to awake to this new opportunity. Of course not all will be on board.

This is a whole topic all of it's own and would make an engrossing topic for a discussion.

Why doesn't the government just print money and hand out to the hungry people?
