    Show Me the Money

    Anybody have a thought on...

Luk 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

My thread, my rules, I want your thoughts and shall not inject any of my own.

    Re: Show Me the Money

Single verses are not the way to go man. Scripture was meant to be read in context

    New International Version (NIV)
    1
Jesus told his disciples: “There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. 2 So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.’
3 “The manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I’m not strong enough to dig, and I’m ashamed to beg— 4 I know what I’ll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.’
5 “So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
6 “‘Nine hundred gallons[a] of olive oil,’ he replied. “The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’

7 “Then he asked the second, ‘And how much do you owe?’

“‘A thousand bushels[b] of wheat,’ he replied.
“He told him, ‘Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’
8 “The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. 9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own? 13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15 He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.

It seems pretty self explanatory what verse 9 meant.

There are many opportunities to gain friends for yourself by means of mammon, just go outside on the streets.

"Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. Matthew 5:42 "

That's funny. "Here God, here is some of Your creation so I can purchase some of Your creation...."

I'm afraid it's the other way around. We are the ones purchased, and at a higher price than we could ever scrape up. The only things we're taking with us is what we have freely given.
Unhappy is he who mistakes the branch for the tree, the shadow for the substance.

OK, what does verse 9 mean?

1.) Who are the 'friends' we gain with worldly wealth?

2.) How will they welcome us into eternal dwellings.

You know the bible interprets itself... I found understanding to this verse and to Luke 16 as a whole by studying Gen 40-47. For example:

Luke 16:1 correlates to Gen 44
    Luke 16:3 > Gen 44:29
    Luke 16:9 > Gen 47:6-7, 22, 26-27
    Luke 16:28 > Gen 47:1-2 (Egypt).

I hope this helps you, and may the Lord bless you.

    Pray for wisdom!

    Re: Show Me the Money

When you see a fellow believing neighbours in money troubles and you having more money than you need give to them a sum of money to get them out of their troubles or even alleviate their troubles, isn't it the same as if you where giving that assistance to Jesus.

    Matthew 25
34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

So even mammon can be given to help your Brethren to help pull them out of financial distress. Doing so is the same as doing it for Jesus.
