Post - He Keeps Me Singing –

Psalm 55:22, “Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you”
    __________

The author of this song I have chosen for you today is Luther B. Bridgers, born February 14, 1884, in Margaretville, North Carolina. He attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and was ordained a Methodist minister. Wherever the Lord led him, since the age of seventeen, he had been a zealous preacher of the gospel, calling others to put their faith in Christ. He fell in love with a very beautiful Kentucky girl and after a romantic courtship, they married. As the years flowed by, God gave the happy couple three little boys. One morning in 1910, Luther Bridgers left home to conduct some gospel meetings in another town. Looking back over his shoulder, he saw his wife standing at the gate with the baby in her arms and a boy on each side. All were blowing kisses to Daddy as he headed for the train. Two weeks later he was awakened by a phone call and was informed that his house caught fire and his wife and three children died in the fire. He stood in shattered silence, holding the receiver.

He said it seemed to him the devil was laughing at him and saying, “God doesn’t love you. Are you going to worship a God like that?” But Pastor Bridgers dropped to his knees by the telephone and prayed, “Lord, I have preached the gospel to other people, and told them it would comfort them in every hour of sorrow. Grant that this same gospel may comfort me.” And the Lord answered his prayer. God gave a new song called “He Keeps Me Singing”, born out of a deeper love for the Lord. Pastor Bridgers served as an evangelist in the American South and in mission work in Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Russia. He pastored in Georgia and North Carolina before retiring in 1945 in Gainesville, Georgia. He died on May 27, 1948, and is buried in the Alta Vista cemetery, Gainesville, Georgia. My brethren, I sincerely trust you will thoroughly enjoy and digest the words to yet another great hymn which is seldom sung in churches today:

    - He Keeps Me Singing -

There’s within my heart a melody
    Jesus whispers sweet and low,
Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still,
In all of life’s ebb and flow.

    Refrain

    Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
    Sweetest Name I know,
    Fills my every longing,
Keeps me singing as I go.

    Refrain

All my life was wrecked by sin and strife,
Discord filled my heart with pain,
Jesus swept across the broken strings,
    Stirred the slumb’ring chords again.

    Refrain

Feasting on the riches of His grace,
    Resting ’neath His shelt’ring wing,
Always looking on His smiling face,
That is why I shout and sing.

    Refrain

Though sometimes He leads through waters deep,
    Trials fall across the way,
Though sometimes the path seems rough and steep,
See His footprints all the way.

    Refrain

Soon He’s coming back to welcome me,
    Far beyond the starry sky;
I shall wing my flight to worlds unknown,
I shall reign with Him on high.

    Refrain

    __________

    Further reflection:

God’s love for us is so deep that we have a hard time comprehending it. It reaches down to us through the darkness of this sinful world, even though we are hopelessly undeserving. The Bible says that before God created our planet, He had decided to display the depth of His love for us through His Son’s death on the cross (1 Peter 1:20; Revelation 13:8 ). Because of God’s great love, the Son came to earth and was slain. On Calvary He died to pay the penalty for our sins. In John 3:16 we read, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” I will conclude with these sobering questions:

    (1) What is your response to God’s love?
    (2) Have you confessed your sin and accepted His forgiveness?
    (3) If you have, are you living in thankful obedience to Him?
    __________

Remember that eternal life is only made possible by God’s Eternal Love.
[CENTER]"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life" - 1 John 5:11-12[/B]

Beautiful story. He lost His loved ones to the last enemy, but the loss was only for a short season, for now He is in Heaven with them and with Jesus. Thank God the devil did not steal the joy and comfort of the LORD from Him. May God grant us all the grace to keep an eternal perspective. Thank you for sharing this.

P.S, I have many wonderful memories of singing this beautiful song.
1 John 1:7- But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 7:1- Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
