Thanks for your reply as always I will implement your suggestions,I'm a creep really aren't I. I looked in the admin section of the software and found that there is anti spam protection by putting a question into the registration process for new comers.Much like Biblefoums, when you ask a Biblical question in some of your process'. I must say the software "simple machine forum" is excellent, but like most things it's the learning curve with the admin section, good for the brain box. I also like the statistic information which is displayed on site for every one to see. If I was paid for all my positive comments I'd be a rich man now, Kind Regard's Alan

Hello,I have come a long way to get here, it's practically down to the bottom of the forum. Since installing simple machine forum software, I found myself wanting to be able to use my old website too. But I only wanted to use one domain, so I installed simple machine forum to my web address on journal77, then uploaded my home-made website to the same address, which has seven pages. Then to my surprise both websites can be found on Google's search results except my home-made websites home page, simple machine forums home page takes pre-eminence over the home-made sites home page. But you can still find my home-made sites home page by going to page two and clicking to home page.

    1. The address for smf has /index.php at the end.

    2. My home-made site has /index.html at the end

I could have done all this the other way round but I wanted smf to be found first for all the main traffic flow.

I could have installed my home-made site first, then installed smf software with smf at the end of the address journal77.com/...
But statistics show that smf receives the most traffic this way (/index.php at the end) I suspect php and html have something to do with the pre-eminence issue, Alan

    Re: Statistics show......that.

Hello, I am in the library at the moment and l have looked at my old website and my new one here at journa77 smf. This site smf has expanded to fit the page while my old site has staid static showing smaller on the big screens they have here in the library. At home l have an old laptop connected to an old monitor because the screen on the laptop stopped working, that is why I come to the library to check out what people visiting journal77 see. I suppose there are still a lot of people still using window xp as I do, and maybe still are on a slow internet connection as I am. I use my mobile phone as a modem, and it is OK for my needs at the moment especially price wise as I can have internet for £5 per month. We do get bombarded by internet suppliers advertising to upgrade to broad band, I am quite satisfied with what I have, because besides the internet I have texts, the use of the phone which has a multiple of uses even an alarm clock. Have to go now to do my shopping in the village so I can catch the bus home at 3-45, very handy drops me of right out side the door, Alan

The server is setup so that if an index.php and an index.html file exist in the same folder, it will give precedence to the index.php.

What you can do is to remove SMF and re-install it to a folder. The installer will create the folder you name during the installation. For example, if you installed SMF into public_html/forum the webaddress for it would be journal77.com/forum

What I'm not 100% sure of is what the installer will do when you remove SMF: if it will only remove the SMF files and folders or everything (I think it only removes the SMF files). Make sure you have a backup just in case.
