    oven problem

the glass door on my oven smashed. anyone have any clue as to how much it might cost to replace it? it's gonna have to wait until tax time to get it fixed and i don't think i can use it until it is fixed. i tried starting the burners and they were smoking right away. the oven is a maytag from 1997.

there is a huge market of used apliance parts now. i would simply use the phonebook, for your area and find a dealer that sells used parts. i estimate your cost will be about 20 dollars for the glass.
but you have bigger problems if the burners are smoking. they are not related. the burners should not smoke even if there was no door.
there is either something on them (clean them) or when the glass broke it damaged them. and the smoke will be comming from a single place in the element. which has or soon will swell up a blister and break.
try cleaning then look for other damage. worst case senerio - used heating element 18.00
I know I cant spell, nor know where to put them ,, ., and ?
If you are so smart, you should be able to figure it out though, huh.

    Re: oven problem

    well..........I should tell you no.
but anyone who has been poor enough knows that the oven can, but definitly should not be used as a heat source lol
Theoretically it is the same element as the eyes are. being it can only get as hot as the power that is allowed to enter it. but eyes are controlled by knob low med high
if the element is working properly, it will reach its max temp and stay there.( with no glass the thermastat will not work, controling power)
therefore there will be no control of the amount of heat staying in the oven, so to know when your food is consistantly cooked would be a guess at best.
for a tortinos pizza, i say yeah sure i would do it, if I had to. but a roast absolutly not.
the question really is not could you, its should you.
that would be an obvious no. if the element stays max too long it may pop
your oven on average is used at 350 or so, but with the window broken out, heat will come out the top of the hole, drawing cooler air into the bottom. this flow of air will go down the front across the bottom up the back and across the top to escape.making the effective heat on the top of oven estimated in the 750 + range . as most ovens go to 550, easily before the thermastat kicks power on and off
potential of fire inside the casing of the unit, if anything has accidently overflowed into areas it could not be cleaned.
also the increased chance of kids getting burned.
ordinarily i would have just said no, but if one of your redneck buddys said sure you could , that would make me a liar.
so my friend yes you can, but no you definitly shouldnt.
    hope my opinion helps
