    Manna

Not to derail another thread on "Food in heaven" I'd like to start this thread on "Manna"

The food from heaven that God nourished His children with in the desert.

This Manna could not be stored up for the next day, so every day they got a fresh supply.
We still feast on Manna every day: Nourishment from the hand of God.... new every day something that soothes the emptiness inside of us, something that gives you strength for the day... Is that not the words of truth that comes from Him, His Word to us for every day??

Does this nourishing Manna not move us to healing from emotional pain and stress and loss?
Does this Manna we enjoy today, not bring us into a closer walk with Him, proving our dependency on Him, proving His love for us..??

Jesus is our Bread of Life He is our Manna!!
    Eat of Him ...
Fenris: "There are two ways to shoot an arrow into a bulls-eye You can shoot the arrow into the bulls-eye or you can shoot the arrow and paint the bulls-eye wherever it hits"

Romans 12:19 Don't seek revenge ... give place to God's wrath. For it is written "Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord"

    Isa. 30:32
And every blow of the rod of punishment, which the Lord will lay on him, will be with the music of tambourines and lyres; And in battles, brandishing weapons, He will fight them

    Re: Manna

This is a good thread. I agree with the OP and second post. We must eat daily. On a side note, manna means, what is it? I can just hear the Israelites after they reached Canaan and the manna stopped. The first day without it, they likely were asking, "Where's the what is it?"

Psalms 78:23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
Psalms 78:24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.
Psalms 78:25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

John 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

John 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
John 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

    Re: Manna

I find it so very strange that the people...there they were eating angel food, and had the audacity to complain! And guess what they complained about. They complained because they didn't have any CUCUMBERS or ONIONS or GARLIC!

Hey, give me angel food any day over cucumbers, onions and garlic!

    Numbers 11:1-6

1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.

3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic:

6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

Silly people! Saying, "Our soul is dried away, because there's nothing to eat but this manna!
    My favorite scripture: Malachi 3:16

"Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name!" (Every time we speak of the Lord, or even THINK of him--its written down in a book of remembrance!)

It's not that strange. They were used to better lives, even as slaves. They ate better and were generally more comfortable. Now they are in a desert eating what I assume to be bland food, unsure of what will happen to them.

I say we need take heed when we are COMPLAINING .... Best not to complain about what God sends to us.

The PROceeding word is what is important about the daily manna. What is God saying to you today? The PREceding word is what God has already said and hopefully we never forget. We need God to speak to us each day a proceeding word. God's proceeding word will never conflict with His preceding word. So if you hear God say something, in a still small voice (common), or through a prophet (rare), or audibly (super rare); if it doesn't line up with his preceding word (Bible), its not true manna.

That is why it is fresh for us every day.... every day in walking with God He reveals His will for us for that day.
Like you say: "What is it that God has for me for today?"
How many times do you find yourself reading a piece of scripture that you have read so many times before, but Today it jumps out at you and you say "Wow! Thank You Lord, for nourishing me with this today" Fresh every day...

Live with that expectancy.... What is on the menu for today from Your Hand Lord?
Go into your quiet time with that.... "What is it?? "

"Better lives" maybe I see it differently....
Did they not perhaps get used too/accustomed to not depend on God anymore for providing for them, but on the ways of the Egyptians

Man shall not live by bread alone (physical wheat bread) but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (spiritual bread)

This is a good point. They should have tired of manna and been motivated to take the land and enjoy the fruit of the land. Instead, they missed the food of their slavery. But the next generation learned the lesson well! They set their jaws like flint and took the land and obeyed the Lord and ate of the fruit of the land.

    Josh 5:10-12

10 While the sons of Israel camped at Gilgal they observed the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month on the desert plains of Jericho. 11 On the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. 12 The manna ceased on the day after they had eaten some of the produce of the land, so that the sons of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate some of the yield of the land of Canaan during that year.
    NASU

So it is sometimes with us. God takes us through a desert time and meets our needs at a minimum. We just get by like Israel did in the desert. Sometimes, it's easy to miss how we had it in the world till we really remember our slavery to sin and the devil. Knowing that the Lord is desiring to bring us into victory over all our enemies (the strongholds in our hearts), we can enjoy the manna we have for the moment, but know that we will be eating from the "fruit of the land" as we prepare for the battles ahead. As we conquer evil in our heart, the fruit of the Lord is there for the taking and it is love, joy, peace, patience, and on and on and on.

These trials are meant to purify our faith. The desert experience helps us see things in us that are not so appealing. They get dealt with and our love, joy, peace, patience, etc. is increased! And we are more than satisfied in Him.
"May the Lamb that was slain receive the just reward for His sufferings." A quote by Moravian missionary that sold himself (along with a friend) into slavery to reach those that the slave owner prevented from hearing the gospel.

May I live for Him and not for me.
