I don't think there's anything wrong with a married woman putting on some nice outfits for her husband.
Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it on the islands from afar, and say, "He Who scattered Israel will gather them together and watch them as a shepherd his flock."
Jeremiah 31:9

I think it's good that she stopped doing what she does because of her conscience, but are we saying that what she was doing is sinful for everybody that's doing it? It's not like they are prancing around naked, are they? I'm just wondering if and how much of a cultural thing this is? Years ago showing your ankles or thigh was considered indecent and maybe something Christian ladies shouldn't do.
Two things....one is the Bible clearly teaches us to be modest in our dress. The other is that this public display is a deliberate attempt to stir up lust. While there is nothing wrong with that within marriage, this modeling is not done privately within marriage. Yes it's sin to do this publicly for all. But they are not Christians who believe as we all do. Therefore we cannot impose such restrictions on them....but SHE is a Christian and has done what is right. This should not cause discenting questions about that decision within the body of Christ. So what is your concern here?

I find the whole modelling thing unsettling. The ridiculous way they make them walk, and what about those weird facial expressions?
I must be some sort of anomaly, but find nothing attractive about any of that, and the underwear stuff would just creep me out.
An unwholesome industry altogether imo.
I've expressed my concern. I'm thinking there is a definite cultural element here that needs to be acknowledged. I also don't think the only reason for these shows is to induce lust from men and women. I think they model lingerie for the same reason they model clothes, to show them off. Of course you will have people lusting, but you can have that anywhere with any amount of clothing. I also think it's a bit of an overstatement to say 'they are not Christians who believe as we do'. Adriana Lima says she's a committed Catholic who thinks abortion is murder and who claims she was a virgin until marriage. I'm just a little hesitant to say she and everybody else is sinning when they walk down the catwalk.
Models are basically mobile clothes hangers.
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.
"May the Lamb that was slain receive the just reward for His sufferings." A quote by Moravian missionary that sold himself (along with a friend) into slavery to reach those that the slave owner prevented from hearing the gospel.
May I live for Him and not for me.
I think the issue BB is pointing out is that what is considered "modest" has always changed throughout history and has been dependent upon the culture at that time. Normal clothes that many Christian women wear today would have been outrageous for a woman to wear in Jesus' time. Can you show me where the Bible actually lays out a dress code?
This thread has 'Compromise' written all over it.![]()

Not VS models. They are all curves, and meant to be sexy and womanly.
How would you guys feel with a VS catalog sitting on your desk at work? That's probably how she felt...doing what she did for a living...it probably bothered her, it would me. I wouldn't do it. It's only a couple square inches of fabric away from playboy, those catwalks. Modeling just for the catalog is a little different, you have to sell that stuff somehow... but I think being a VS model comes with other responsibilities that other lingerie models don't have and I bet a big part of why she was uncomfortable.
