I still have fond memories of gas as cheap as $6/gallon.
1Jn 4:1 NKJV Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1Th 5:21-22 NKJV Test all things; hold fast what is good. (22) Abstain from every form of evil.

They must tax it like crazy across the pond. Of course, the US is much more spread out. Public transportation only makes sense in the big cities here so we don't have much of it like they do over there.
"May the Lamb that was slain receive the just reward for His sufferings." A quote by Moravian missionary that sold himself (along with a friend) into slavery to reach those that the slave owner prevented from hearing the gospel.

May I live for Him and not for me.

The tax is most of the price, I think something like 3/4 of the overall price is tax in one form or another. A lot of people regard that as being a 75% tax rate but really it means the tax is 300%, which is pretty silly.

Public transport in cities is provided but varies in quality. Mass transit in London is pretty comprehensive but horribly overpriced, overcrowded to the point it's verging on being dangerous and not very reliable. Public transport between cities varies from reasonable to all but useless, and again the price is far too high for what it is.

For comparison I've got a friend who lives about 35 miles away in another town. By car it takes an hour, assuming no traffic problems. By train it takes about two hours. Last year I cycled it (my car was off the road and I didn't fancy the train) and it took me a little over two hours. Something is wrong when a train from one town to another is only marginally quicker than cycling.

All depends upon who is cycling, I guess.

Gas went up last night another .19 cents here near me.
Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

It's pretty bad up here too, but not like Europe. We should really just start crossing the border and filling up though it would be about an hour return trip assuming the border is not ridiculously busy like usual. Fortunately I live close to work so I bike when I can.
It is only the cynic who claims “to speak the truth” at all times and in all places to all men in the same way, but who, in fact, displays nothing but a lifeless image of the truth… He dons the halo of the fanatical devotee of truth who can make no allowance for human weaknesses; but, in fact, he is destroying the living truth between men. He wounds shame, desecrates mystery, breaks confidence, betrays the community in which he lives, and laughs arrogantly at the devastation he has wrought and at the human weakness which “cannot bear the truth”. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in Ethics.

Well you know what they say... if you want less of something, tax it. I suppose the governments there want people driving less. That would not go over well here in the US.

Someone like Mark Cavendish would probably do it in little over an hour.

In the UK it seems the government just doesn't want us moving about at all. Fuel is hideously taxed, public transport is either limited or overcrowded, and overpriced. Which does rather beg the question of how they expect us to do stuff like go to work in the first place.

With energy so heavily taxed and therefore expensive its no wonder that the UK and other eurozone countries are in economic crisis. - - - - Dravenhawk

If I had to pay $8 a gallon here, I would have to find something else to do for work. It is hard enough to budget with $4 a gallon. I feel for you, my brother.

I heard this on Hanitys radio show the other day. Get a pad of those sticky notes and a sharpie marking pencil and place these easily at hand in your car. Whenever you go to gas up write on the sticky note "Hows that hope and change workin out for you?" or "Obama vetoed Keystone XL" or something to your liking that connects Obamas actions or inactions to high gas prices and post the sticky note to the gas pump. My favorite is "OBAMA OWNS THIS! ----->>" with arrow pointing to the price window on the gas pump. - - - - Dravenhawk

Just got to work, and gassed up. Paying over $4.17 a gallon now.

And with the storms that just ripped through here (Indiana etc) it will only go up.

Some enterprising capitalist is now selling pre-written post-it notes. They can be ordered on-line.
