You answered my question much more eloquently than I asked it! Thanks.

Hi. My name is Laura and I'm. A rep-aholic. And I'm in no way recovering.
Also, I don't know if you can take away from a persons bureputation but you can give negative reps. There is an option for agree or disagree.it's rare but when something is so very wrong I give a disagree rep.

Welcome to the circle, Laura. My name is Rick, and I too am a rep-aholic. I give reps out because some people on this forum are quicker with their typing skills then I am, and can post my thoughts quicker. My wife says it is because I am like an open book: but with blank pages.

Anyway, I hope and pray that this addiction does not fail me. That I can learn to take the high road in all the reps I hand out. And, if I see a rep that truly deserves it, I will give them....a....neg rep.

I pray for the strength to do that if need be.

Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.
    C.S. Lewis

You're gonna make a difference when you lay down your life, and in complete submission to God, choose to die with Him in service to other people.

Better to be an open book with blank pages for learning and writing than to be a closed book full of wrong ideas.

Based on repping power (a formula based on number of posts, time on the board etc) you can rep a certain number of times a day. Once you rep a person, you have to rep 10 others before you can go back and rep that person again. This forces you to divvy up repping.

Here is an excerpt from the FAQ's but I don't know it they are up to date. Still gives a general knowledge about how reps are calculated though:
What is the amount of reputation I can give out based on (reputation power)?
The amount of reputation you can give out depends on several factors. The factors are as follows: number of days you have been a member, number of posts you have, number of reputation points you currently have.

What are the values for all of the factors affecting my giving reputation power?
The values are as follows: For every 250 number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. For every 2500 number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. For every 800 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
