The Tempter
I am a tempter; I tempt night and day;
It is my goal to lead you astray
So don't try to hide, and don't try to run
While I tempt you with visions of fun.
Come and I'll show you a make-belief land
Filled with laughter and awfully grand,
You'll have many friends - it's the place to be
For those who love fun and who want to be free.
Believe when I tell you it's quite lovely there,
Don't take any notice when they say "Take care;
Beware of the glitter, the tinsel and shine," -
Just come on over and have a good time.
The fountain of youth can be had for some gold
And all kinds of pleasures may be bought and sold,
The place to forget your troubles and fears,
Inhibitions and heartaches and those lonely tears.
It's all about you; your wishes and dreams,
There are no limits, taboos or extremes.
Just let go and live – do not hold back
Follow our leader; be one of the pack.
What's that you say? You just want to know
What will happen if you should let go;
Will all the cares and the problems you face
Disappear without leaving a trace?
Well, actually, they won't go away,
But at least you'll have fun night and day,
So pay no heed to your God-given conscience;
Consider your woes as redundant nonsense.
You want to know how your life will end
If you should do what I recommend.
If truth be told, it won't end so well
For you will burn in the fires of hell.
But listen to me; when all's said and done,
At least you'd have had your games and your fun:
Who cares what tomorrow or next year will bring?
Today is what matters, and you're your own king!
Oh, alright then, I'll be on my way -
I've things to do and games to play;
It just seems such a waste and a crime
To give up the chance to have a good time.
Another one slipped through my fingers today
I have lost and I know there's no way
To tempt him and harm him where he's gone to hide -
Safely and soundly at Jesus Christ's side.”
