Thread: Is it better to obey God or the Government?

  1. #1

Is it better to obey God or the Government?

If God says one thing, and the government says another who do we obey.

For example, if the Government says;'Have an obortion.' and God says; 'Do not kill' Whom do you obey?

This goes for all issues of conscience, faith, doctrine, & ethics.

Can someone who knows how, create a poll for me? I am new in here and don't know how to.

Give 2 options in the poll, 1) Obey God, 2) Obey Government.

    Thanks

Perspective. We're not subject to kings and dictators. In the United States our governing authority is the Constitution, not our elected servants. That is what we are called to obey.

huh? where did that come from? It's not a relavent question. Paul instructs us to obey our governing authorities, ALL of which are produced by fallen men.

The question is if there is a contradiction as stated in the OP.

If the state says 1 thing and God another , whom do you obey?

Guess I'm the first to vote ... if there is a direct conflict ... obey God. Scriptures have talked about some being thrown in jail for obeying God and it's governments that throw one in jail so ...

In this country "we" are the state. If an elected servant passes a law that would force me to disobey God, I would abide in God.

I just want to make the point that the current occupier of the White House is not our "governing authority" in a Biblical sense. He is not what God commands my obedience to.

Re: Is it better to obey God or the Government?

    My choice is simple:

My Lord and Savior died for me: can I do any less for Him?

I just want to make the point that the current occupier of the White House is not our "governing authority" in a Biblical sense. He is not what God commands my obedience to.
Keck, my friend, I understand what your saying here. And I know how our government works. And I agree with you.
Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

After 12 posts, it is so far 100% for obeying God.

I wonder if this will change now after people reading about physical war.

If God tells us;Philippians 4:5 NKJV'Let your gentleness be known to all men.'
    and
The Government tells us to go and fight in a war,

Who will we be obedient to?

I hope people can change their vote[I don't know if this is possible, or vote again]

That depends on whether people respond with their own moral relativism or not.

God doesn't define war as sin.
