    A Fascination with War.

I was an army brat! And I have been fascinated by war for as long as I can remember. From my Dad's equipment and tours of the base to the shows I watched on tv (Combat, Rat Patrol etc...) to the toys I played with. ALL war toys! I don't think I had friends...just military advisors! I was voted the most likely person to start WW3 in my elementary class.

I still to this day have a strange fascination with war and warfare. I watch re-runs of Combat and Rat Patrol with my boys to this day.

But there is something wrong with equating this fascination with the actual execution of war. I don't ever want to kill anyone...I want to save them. Maybe I could be a medic?!

Why are young boys so taken with warfare? Why are men so taken with this?

There is a far cry between watching Saving Private Ryan and actually killing the enemy. I thank God for that!

My fascination with earthly warfare has led me to a deeper understanding of warfare in the Spirit. THAT is where a Christian is to battle...not according to the flesh. A Christian is a soldier of Christ and must be ready to lay down his life at all times. As a true soldier, one must reckon he is already dead; only then can he be a good soldier. So we can redeem the fascination of war in order to better serve the Lord.

    Re: A Fascination with War.

I have never been to a shooting war. I was in cadets and the reserves but never went into any kind of action. I realize that some who are here have fought in wars. At one time...most people had.

I hunt deer and still shoot at targets. I shoot in the military classification (what else?)

My study of war has made me come to hate the inhumanity with which a man is able to treat another man...who could have been his friend. Wars are senseless. Wars do not accomplish what we think they do. There is no just war from a human perspective.

I do believe that wars are necessary in this age. I just don't believe that this is a role for Christians. We war according to the Spirit. Our weapons are spiritual. If there were more spiritual warriors...we would not see so many carnal wars.

The way to peace is through spiritual warfare. We must be lights in the world. Wars start because of darkness. We are to put on the armour of light.

THIS is fascinating. That we can overcome the world through faith in Christ. Let the conquering begin!

I've asked that this topic be given a rest for a day or so. Thanks for your understanding.

Twelve is the number of government. Thus, it is quite apropos that I am on my way towards wielding the power of twelve bars - each bar like, say, a tribe.....or a star.....or, maybe an apostle. A blue apostle. Like apostle smurfs. Does anyone remember smurfs? And all the controversy about them being from the devil? It's probably bad that I juxtaposed "apostle" and "smurf" in the same sentence. But then, I probably lost you at "blue apostle". Yes, my friends, this is what "rare jewel of a person" is actually implying. "Rare Jewel of a Person" really means, "Potentially Insane".
