Thread: Did Jesus promote violence?

    Re: Did Jesus promote violence?

There is NO support for violence anywhere in the New Covenant.

Jesus saying 2 swords are enough amoung 12 guys DOES NOT mean He promotes violence at all!!!!!!

Or do you believe He contradicts himself when He says;'Be gentle as doves.'?

    Jesus never promoted violence!

I feel this is using the Word of God as in is dishonest, even if this is not intended, it is dishonest, or am I being too honest by saying this?

Or how can anyone use The Word of God to promote an idea, where He isn't actually saying that?
I must agree, it is dishonest to use a verse implying it says something, but in fact IT IS NOT SAYING THAT AT ALL!!!!!

Yes! Either the weapons of our warfare are spiritual in Christ Jesus or else we are just as any other man in Adam and left to fight our own battles.

How can people say they follow Christ, yet they promote violence that Jesus did NOT promote?

I want to ask you your opinion about this. Do you think when a woman is raped and violated that is God's will for that woman?
Unhappy is he who mistakes the branch for the tree, the shadow for the substance.

Are you going to stop rapes from ever happening? How many? Does the existence of rapes and other lawlessness justify whatever we do in response...??? Or do we still obey God in spite of our own indignation.

    Who will avenge...God or us?

No, but then how many women are raped and there is no one around to help them?

Do you think that it was God's will, that no one was there to help?

When the mass of Christians are killed and martyred, Do you think that it was God's will for them?

Why don’t you just accept what the scriptures teach, rather form your views and opinions based on hypotheticals and carnal emotions?

    Are you posting for tea?

In any case please pay attention. Your response has nothing to do with my question. If you wish to answer my question please keep within the context of the question and do not add to it. Thank you in advance for you cooperation.

Caleb, I ask you for the same respect. Please just answer the question within its context. I did not request a sermon, just a simple answer. Thank you.

Seems to me they gave you answers

Unless forums are like a test, with a teacher, and it's all about getting it right between a), b), and c)...

Let's try this one. Biblicaly speaking, should we answer a fool according to his foolishness?

When we try to make get an absolute in this way, going to the minute at the expense of whatever else may enter the situation, we usually stray from reality. We dissociate a piece of puzzle from the whole of the puzzle... And then try and make a judgment according to that!
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Cor. 3:18)

Earnestly contending for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints

Biblically we should answer with yes - yes or no - no.

We should not test a question with another question even though we often do and perhaps with excuse from each other.

Are you going to stop rapes from ever happening?
If i see it happening, and am able, certainly.

    How many?
    I don't know.

Does the existence of rapes and other lawlessness justify whatever we do in response...???
No the existence of the law does.

Or do we still obey God in spite of our own indignation.

    God will avenge his people.
But a woman getting raped has not to do with that.
That doesn't mean she deserves to be raped.
And it doesn't mean the criminal deserves to rape.

I am tea, and what you accuse another of you are guilty of yourself!!! See post 51 above!!!!

I mirror your words back to you, now go back to post 51 and answer, let's see if you can adhere to your own advise?

An excellent point. In stead of debating from the bible, people are trying to side track and use hypothethical examples.

I have lived almost 50 years, travelled in more than 25 countries, most of them extremely poor, and have never once experienced these hypothethical situations some speak of in here.

I m sure most have not either.

Obfuscation is a tactic used by those who have an agenda other than the truth.

He promoted a future violence against the enemies of God:

Mat 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
Mat 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
