Yes QD; and especially in the last 2 years they are hiding most natural disasters and earthquakes up to 6 magnitude on the mainstream media.

Eartquakes are getting worse by the day in number and magintude - 75 quakes yesterday alone above 2.5 This is the most i have seen for the last +/- 2yrs, the average use to be 23 to 30.

Look at the magnitudes above 5 in the last 24hrs!

Re: Are all these natural disasters a sign of what is to come?

Typically there are 100 to 200 quakes in the magnitude 5-6 range every month across the globe. That hasn't changed since 1973 (earliest data in the USGS database I use). They have not been increasing, at least up until I last checked in March.

Typically there are 10-20 magnitude 6-7 each month. Usually these are out in the ocean or in unpopulated areas, so they don't get much attention. Mag 7 to 8 is maybe 3 to 4 every month.

These numbers can temporarily spike up in a month or so after a major quake because of aftershocks.

Usually there are 1 to 4 higher than mag 8 every year. Having 2 in a row is unusual, but we'll see if that continues.

I don't track anything less than mag 5 since the USGS doesn't report those less than 4.5 outside the US, and because the counts are very sensitive to the number of reporting stations. The average magnitude of all quakes reported has actually gone down over the years, probably indicating they are getting better at reporting the minor quakes.

I download the entire database every year around March and plot it up to see if anything is changing. So far, nothing much to report. But I suppose if God decides to shake things up, that could change in a hurry.

Re: Are all these natural disasters a sign of what is to come?

Don't forget "man/satan" can induce these disasters for deception purposes for those to wonder if it is the sign prior to his coming. I think Matt 24:7 is this man/satan made deception which bring about a return of a king in verse 15. If we continue in chapter 24 we see another tribulation but greater than in verse 7 which brings about the true king.

Now to answer your question, No. The events (matt 24:7) which will lead up to the end will be condensed in a relativily short period of time not over decades with several things going on at the same time, wars, plagues, earthquakes ect.....we will know the sign there will be no guess work.

6.8 magnitude earthquake strikes off the coast of Papua New Guinea:

April 17, 2012 – PAPUA NEW GUINEA - A 6.8-magnitude quake struck off the northeast of Papua New Guinea on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but there was no tsunami warning issued.

The quake hit at 5:13 pm (0713 GMT) 141 kilometers (88 miles) north of the country’s second largest city of Lae and 443 kilometers from the capital Port Moresby at a depth of 201 kilometers, it said. “A destructive tsunami was not generated based on earthquake and historical tsunami data,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement.

Geoscience Australia measured the quake at 6.8 magnitude and at a depth of 215 kilometers but agreed it was unlikely to generate dangerous waves in the developing Pacific island nation. “It’s pretty deep so it’s not a tsunami threat we believe, even though it’s slightly offshore,” Geoscience Australia seismologist Clive Collins told AFP. The USGS also put the earthquake a 6.8 magnitude.

Collins said there had been reports of the quake being felt as far away as Goroko, a highland region about 250 kilometers from the epicenter. “There would be quite some shaking to the areas close by… because it’s about 20 kilometers offshore,” Collins said. “So it’s obviously been felt in a wide area around Papua New Guinea, which you would expect from something that big.” Quakes of such magnitude are common in impoverished PNG, which sits on the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire,” a hotspot for seismic activity due to friction between tectonic plates.”That northern part of Papua New Guinea is subject to quite strong earthquakes reasonably frequently,” Collins said, adding that the biggest risk in the mountainous country was generally from landslips caused by tremors. –Daily Star
