How do we know God is all powerful and all knowing?

Hi, my question is just what the thread is, and I know there are bible verses that claim that God is all knowing and all powerful, but since we don't see how God displays this on a daily basis, how do we know he is all knowing and all powerful?

I know there will be bible verses that quote this, but we can't verify this.

    So how do we know?

God is the greatest conceivable being. Part of that is surely being all-powerful and all-knowing.

Prophecy being fulfilled is a good indicator that God is all-knowing.

Just as an example, the book of Ezekiel has been proven to be written in the time period that it says it was. If this is true, then Ezekiel's prophecies of the destruction of Tyre is disturbingly accurate and in line with secular records and physical evidence. You can verify this, and other such "anomalies" (statistic improbabilities) of bible prophecies that have happened.

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

If you want to see it you need to live a sacrificial and risky life. Risk you life, your health, your reputation, your friends, your family for the gospel.

Let's say you're a soldier, and you are driving a vehicle into Baghdad, Iraq during Desert Storm.

You have, just recently been Baptized Into Christianity.

Suddenly, you are ambushed by over a hundred men, thirty of them just launched RPG's at your column and none connect. Even though the range is less than one-third of the maximum. The rockets seem to be "pushed down, out of the way of the column".

Seventy automatic weapons rake your positions without connecting with one man. Range? Less than two-thirds of their maximum.

All of a sudden, you are beating a hundred man ambush from the "dead man's position", the "kill zone".

You realize that you have been "protected", by something.

Something more powerful than anything in the physical world.

MT 24:43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.

As opposed to the bad man that does nothing?

It is simple... nothing that you take for granted right now COULD be taken for granted unless God is all powerful; laws of logic, morals, knowledge,....none of it. No other belief can account for such consistency. You don't wake up in the morning and grab hold of your bed post because you think that gravity may have stopped working. You take for granted that gravity will always work. The only thing that can account for that is God's promises and his nature. Science can't account for it. They take it for granted because it has always been that way. We know that too but we didn't need a scientist to tell us that. Don't get me wrong, there are things scientists do need to tell us but most of the things they tell us are usually somewhat obvious by deductive reasoning. But when it truly is reduced to the "Why?" they have to say, "because it has always been that way". They can't quite say, "Because God is a mighty God" so in that they leave out the answer. You know, if they are right about "No God" and that "the universe has always been that way" then we cannot count on anything because there is no law that says the universe has to be the same tomorrow. On the other hand, scientists, by their taking for granted that certain things will always be true, are also by that taking certain characteristics about God for granted. They affirm God but deny his power to work in their own flesh to free them from sin.

We know that God is all powerful because if he wasn't there would be nothing that we could know for sure. So far he hasn't let us down. I kinda expect that to continue because I know he is all powerful. Not by inference that things have always been this way but because of a promise that God cannot lie nor can he deny himself.

One other thing is the freedom from your sin which you would otherwise not know. "He who abides in my words is my disciple indeed and he shall know the truth, and the truth shall make him free" from what? Well when Jesus spoke these words in John 8 the Jews replied that they are not slaves of anyone so why is Jesus saying we will be free? Jesus replied, "He who sins is a slave of sin".

So the "truth will set you free from sin". That is the power of God. Can a man stop stealing and never steal again? by the power of God, yes. Can a man stop cussing and never cuss again? By the power of God, yes. Can you name one single sin that can not be conquered by the power of God? No other religious system accounts for this power nor does the natural man have any desire for himself to be free. The natural man is so confused that he thinks to be free from sin is slavery because he would have to get up every morning and consciously focus on not sinning all day. He sees "not sinning" as a binding up of himself of what he can and cannot do. He isn't "free" if he can't do what he wants. But when a man finally comes to Christ and begins to take up his cross daily he finds that all of a sudden to stop sinning is difficult. He wants nothing more than to cease from sinning: to be free. But now he is in bondage. It is a matter of perspective. The power of God is in his words; to cleanse, to free, to build up, etc until we all attain to one new man. How do we know God is all powerful? Because no other thing natural, spiritual, imagined can accomplish this but it is being accomplished everyday in Christ.

    Hello TruthFaith,

If you are a Christian, then you believe (or should believe) that Jesus is God. So in what sense did Jesus prove this fact on a daily basis? If you think about it, many days He didn't. It would have been real easy for Him to "poof" this or "zap" that, to provide proof of who He was, but God is not that way; that is why faith is the essential human component for belief in God. God (or Jesus) gives us just enough "proof" so that, combined with faith, we can recognise Him for who He is; but likewise, God leaves enough room so that those who refuse to believe can "justify" their own conclusions. But in the end, each person shall be judged by God for their deeds; so the question to each person should be, are their deeds dictated by a faith in the Creator, or do they live according to their own rules. One path leads to eternal life, the other to condemnation.

The "Omni-this" and "Omni-that" god is a platonic construct, not a scriptural one. Plato had a philosophy about "ideals" that Xianity adopted.

Prophecy shows that God knows the future. So God is not just all knowing in the here and now, God is all knowing into the future.

As for all powerful. How can anyone defeat Someone who knows their every move, every thought, every strategy? Imagine playing a game of chess against someone who knew every move you where going to make and every reaction you would make to their moves. Would you have any hope of defeating them?
