Who then can be saved?
Luke 18:26-27- "Who then can be saved?"
When Jesus spoke of the difficulties of the rich to enter the Kingdom, some asked, "who then can be saved?" They asked this question because they knew that everyone has things that are very difficult to surrender to God. The difficulty for the rich man was not in his riches, but in his love for his riches. By his actions, he showed that retaining his wealth was more important to him than entering the Kingdom of God. He had kept many of the commandments from his youth, but little did he realize that he was failing to keep the most important commandment of all, to love God with all his heart. His heart had been divided by his riches, and a double minded man is unstable in all of his ways.
When the question was asked, " ...if this is so, who then can be saved?", Jesus' answer is straight to the point. "..the things that are impossible with men are possible with God." The requirements of genuine faith and true repentance cannot be met by human effort and striving alone, for our hearts, (by nature), are bound by lust, greed, covetousness, and desire, and are not willing to submit to God until He moves on them and causes them to thirst for the true riches that can only be found in Christ Jesus.
The difficulties that seem to prevent us from believing, obeying, and surrendering to God are insurmountable to us, but when we place them in the hands of God He causes us to scale the wall of difficulty, and enter into the perfect rest of the sufficiency of Christ. God may not ask us to forsake everything we have to follow Him, but He will change our heart's perspective to the perspective of Paul, who said...
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, ( Philippians 3:8)
Usually, the difficulties we face in surrendering to God are not answered by a change in circumstance, but by a change of our hearts.
