    Jonah

    Jonah

Jonah, My prophet, My servant, will you go
Will you bring My Word to these people in need
Tell them the consequences of their wickedness
An adulterous people they have become
For what they are sowing they shall surely reap

My Lord, is this a true Word from Your own mouth
Would you see your servant be found speaking untruth
For I know you are a merciful and gracious God
Giving Forgiveness to those who repent of their ways

I know you, My Lord. You do not delight in judgment
What if these people repent, and Your hand is stayed
Your servant shall be despised and mocked by men
Will Your words then be hollowly spoken by this servant

Jonah My prophet, Who’s vessel are you. Men’s or Mine?
Who will you honor more, your reputation or My Will?

Oh, Lord, I will flee from this task you have set before me
On a swift ship out to sea perhaps my small form be hid
Perhaps You will pass me by and send another in my stead
Can You not see it is only Your Truth I wish to speak

Jonah, why have you forgotten Who It is that I AM
My thoughts are above your own, as are My ways unto men
With My tender mercies I send you into the belly of a whale
What shall I do unto thee, My servant, what is the end of you

Shall I in My judgment for disobedience cause you to perish
Here in the belly of a fish, be eaten by worms and die
Or would you have My mercy upon your soul, and say LIVE
Which will you choose, yourself, man, or My will upon you

My, Lord, You have opened My eyes to Your mercy and grace
I am completely undone with my idolatry of self and men
Do with me what You will, My God, for You reign supreme
My will is to perish here in this fish, but only Thy will be done

Jonah, I looked and wondered that there was no intercessor
There was none to bring the warning into the congregation
None to uphold My standards and point the way to Grace
Go! Do what I say! Let My words enter your mouth!

Thus, time proves, You have brought mercy upon this people
I know you Lord, and You have pardoned the repentant
Now, See, the state I am in. You have brought foolishness
To pass in my own reputation and life. What of it.

Jonah! Would you see. Would you open your eyes to My Love
Am I a respecter of persons not pardoning them as I did for you
Is not the belly of a fish and the warning of death not the same
Is not the repentance the same. Would you have Me as evil.

Harden not your heart this day. In My wrath there is mercy
Hold not the favor nor the mockery of men in high esteem
Being convinced of My Word and My Way, go forth in boldness
Make haste for nothing, but in humble confidence, Do My Will

A beautiful poem. How often are we, ourselves, Jonahs?

Probably more times than we even realize ourselves.

Reminds me of the different personalities of newborn babies. Some are born content, and they seem ready for their new life. Then there are others who
would be happier crawling back in the womb. It takes them longer to settle in, and are generally the more apt to resist change there on out.

Seems Jesus even had early reservations of stepping into his ministry. He was very reluctant when asked by his mom to supply the wine. What is interesting
about that miracle is it wasn't within the circumstance of preaching the Gospel, but of a social event. Sometimes God works beyond the box of what traditions
    dictate.
