If by realm of possibility you mean anything conceivably imaginable that has a 0.001% chance of happening, then I agree. As a comparison, the chance of Russia revolting over their bogus elections and throwing Putin out is probably at least 100x more likely than Russia going for open war with any major power. They are rationale actors, not north korean.
They are rationale actors. You must also look at them in end time prophecies. They definitely at some point do go to war with a Persian-Syrian/Arab coalition.
A scenario that fits prophecy is that if we attack Syria, Russia and Iran attack Israel.

I can't see any reason Russia would attack Israel.

You do realize that you can make end times prophecy mean absolutely anything you want right? People have been doing it since the time of Christ. It of course always centers around the particular political circumstances of that person's life and situation, naturally with their own nation playing some kind of grand role. The Romans, Spanish, British and anyone else with some sense of world prominance all did it. In 100 years and 1000 years it will still be happening.

No, I never heard that. Guess I must have missed that in my eschatology classes in Seminary.
Back on a serious note, do you relegate prophecy to worthlessness, or do you see it relevant?

Prophecy does not include figuring out ways to insert ourselves or our nations into it in order to indulge our particular ethno-centric beliefs about ourselves. Unless it is specifically spelled out as such, there is no reason to interpret it as anything beyond what it says. This goes along with the not adding to scripture concept. Since our purpose on earth is following God's plan for us, prophecy is useful insofar as it helps us do that. There is a legitimate danger in making prophecy our reality, which is where term 'self-fulfilling' prophecy comes from. It can be used to justify or rationalize certain policies or behaviors, for which the underlying motive is destructive or selfish. For example lets go kill some people because it will help bring the end times. Or let's wreck the place because hey we are (insert name of country of whoever is making it about themselves here) and since we are part of the prophecy, its all going down anyway! Its too easy of an excuse to avoid doing the actual hard work of improving ourselves acting judiciously with what God has given us.

Prophecies have always been interpreted to relate to the interpreter's circumstances. They are subject. You are far from the first, and Christians will be doing this until the prophecy actually happens. As Christ's return cannot be predicted, neither can these events. When it eventually happens, I suspect it will make every interpretation over the last 2000 years and every one from here until who knows how long, appear pretty foolish.
