Ya know... I've said plenty of those themed prayers and actually still do in one way or another. I will say, ALL Christians would say prayers like this.

God didn't answer them until I began to WALK in what little I did know. Then, once I began to walk in what understanding I had, more was given.

I had to begin to APPLY the Word of God, not only into my own life, but in the lives of others.

Do you do any ministry work where you go to church?

Faith and love is EXPRESSED, in other words... exercised and both will grow greater as God moves you into position to express greater faith and love.

Another friend of mine used to "speak in tongues" because he attended a church where people do it. Now, he does not. I guess his gift wasn't permanent.

I prayed for the gifts because I earnestly desire them. I have not been give that particular gift, nor do I experience immediate healing for anyone, nor do I have the ability to speak for God outside of scripture. I guess I am not an apostle. I am a desciple, though.

I have not put myself in a box and I have no prior teachings to overcome. I am still watching and listening.

    God bless you, my brother.
What you said is the issue I have with tongues. The Apostles spoke in foreign tongues that they did not know. It was a divine interraction involving to Holy Spirit so they could edify the new church. Just like if I woke up one day speaking Italian. I don't know a lick of it.
Also, the bible states that if you speak in tongues there needs to be an interpretor, and if someone is "practicing" tongues then it is not a supernatural occurance from how I see it. We cannot be taught how to posess gifts. They just happen.

Also, before anyone gets mad at me i am NOT mocking those who believe in tongues. I am expressing the issue I have with it and why I do not believe in them.

This is legit. I know a man who knows very little Spanish, yet he ministers deep in southern Mexico, and is understood perfectly.

In answer to your question, up until last month I did teach a bible study class and it was the most rewarding time I ever had. The blessings I recieved from being able to discuss scriptures with people who had a hunger for them was amazing.

I am hoping to find a place to serve again where the gifts that I have received can be used. I still am involved in scripture study outside of my classes, and those are really good; but the round-table discusssions about the Word are my favorite.

All of my discussions included ALL of the verses pertaining to a subject so that everyone who formed a belief could explain the reason for their beliefs to anyone. It was always my goal that people know all of scriptures and not be fooled by people who teach only part of them. Preparing for those classes involves a great deal of work on my part.

My brother, it may be only my view; but your responses seem to be indicating that I don't agree with your views because I have not fully experienced a relationship with God like you have. Is that your intent?

How long has he been down there...?
And what is preventing him from learning the language?

Personally I would never support a mission where the missionary didnt have fluent language skills with the people in the area he is going to minister to.
For me I would feel that would be at least one of the basic requirements.

And as I stated before, there is a heavy use of English with in Mexico.
Most every family has had relatives who have been to the USA and learned at least some English.

Absolutely not... and I'm sure that "intent" can be misconstrued due to lack of expression through this type of discussion where only reading is done and the only emotion felt, is the reader feeling their own.

It's easy to have a wrong impression of intent.

Hooah... and during any typical Bible study, many more scriptures usually come out as people are led by the Holy Spirit to include other scriptures pertaining to any given study topic.

We've been through this song and dance of yours before. I understand you disbelieve the story; however, that doesn't change its truth. This happened to him on two separate occasions. He doesn't live in Mexico...just travels there with another friend of mine, at times, to minister Christ. While there may be heavy use of English in Mexico, I lived in New Mexico for 17 years, in an area that is ~60% Hispanic. There were a LOT of illegal immigrants there and most of them knew only a small handful of English words. There is no way they would understand an entire message delivered in English sans translator, unless the Spirit enabled them to hear it.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress: The Spirit Baptism.

I will agree with you on this about understanding the language.
And if most families have had relatives in America that doesn't mean they know English. I have had family that visited Mexico, but I still don't understand a lick of their language. Just sayin...

I've never done that, but I have street preached to groups of homeless people in English, having no clue what I was saying when I said it or after, and had my fellow workers in Christ say it was the best 'sermon' on the passage they had ever heard. Does the one speaking in another language know what they are saying?

I think this is the same thing. We often speak the words we are given, only to fail to remember them later. However, the hearers remember...
