Question How much power does Satan have in our lives?

So I am wondering..I know Satan is the "ruler" of this present world that we live in and Satan and his angels have free roam and they go about looking for whomever they can devour, tempt, kill, destroy and etc...but does everything that Satan does have to go through God first for permission? or how does that all work? just curious about how much power Satan has? I know God has more power, correct? any help appreciated!

Satan has only limited power. God will not allow him to do certain things.
During the time of Jesus Satan walked the Earth. Even when Satan was busy torturing Job, he had to have permission from God to do that. Satan does not literally "roam" the earth like he did years ago. He uses other forms to destroy. Temptation, your weaknesses and so on.

Over all Satan only has the power you allow him to have.

Our Father who is in Heaven
    Holy is Your Name
    Your Kingdom come
    Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread
    Forgive us our tresspasses
As we forgive those who tresspass against us
    Lead us away from temptation
And deliver us from the evil one

    For the Kingdom is Yours
    And the power
    And the glory
    Forever and Ever. Amen
    (Matt 6:9-13)

The evil one only has whatever power God allows him to have. He might be a prince in this world for now, but God is King!

Re: How much power does Satan have in our lives?

Let me put it this way: God knew every thought, word, and action that would occur since the beginning of time. If something were to occur that was too much he would intervene but if you're thinking in terms of the first sentence I wrote he wouldn't have to intervene because it was already known to Him.

Satan has power but he work's by God's agenda. God allows satan to work in such a way so that someone involved usually/eventually comes back to God in prayer, praise, and quiet times.

Amen. Christians are given the spirit of truth, the Holy Spirit, to guide them in all things. When we are tempted, we have the Holy Spirit to guide us in our decisions, to bind the enemy at will, through His name.

Well, You beat me to it. Not much else for me to say except to reinforce what you said...

Job 1:11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

Notice that Satan is asking God to try Job. God says to Satan "go ahead, but do not touch him". Satan did not touch Job.

Job 2:5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
Job 2:6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

Satan again asks to try Job. God says "go ahead, but do not take his life". So Satan struck Job, but did not take his life.

Satan can only do to us what God allows, and God puts restrictions on that...

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

AMEN! Christians need only to resist the devil and he will flee.

There's an old story. There is a boy who is constantly getting bullied and pushed around by a bigger boy. His older brother tells him, "why don't you just stand up to him?" So the next time he got bullied, he stood up to the bully and stood his ground. Suddenly the bully became very afraid, turned pale and ran away. The little boy felt so strong and good about Himself, but he didnt realize his big brother was standing right behind him.

A preacher once said, ( I can't remember who, maybe many), "the next time the devil comes knockin' at your door, ask Jesus to answer the door."

We must resist the devil with the authority we have in Christ and through His Power. We overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of our testimony.

The devil hates your blood, you know he hates your blood.
So drown him in a flood...Keith Green.

Isaiah 59:19- So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
1 John 1:7- But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 7:1- Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above:
    (John 19:10-11)
And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

Re: How much power does Satan have in our lives?

He is far stronger than christians think he ruled the world when Jesus was here he has darkened our hearts In over 2000 years he has edited the bible. He rules the world now.Wants to be worshipped by humanity, the nightmare false prophet from revelation is due.
    Homosexuality,abortion,adultery,
Women wear make up and live a life of vanity enticing people to lust over them. This is a whole life with the Devil and is an addiction.Greed, lust, national pride which is strong in the USA.Racism, selfishness millions are starving to death. The has added perservatives to food which is killing the bee colonys.
cars destroying the environment polution kills 4000 people every year in London alone, mostly caused by cars.
People don't know what sin is it is evil spirits in us,only by fasting and praying sends them away,Mary Madelene had 7 evil spirits and she wasn't foaming at the mouth or chained up she was a normal person.I've got 6 vocal ones in me so i can study them.
Eating meat,is murder an addiction wearing animal skins, thats been taken out of the recognised bible,
TV enjoying violence we cannot sin in thought word or deed.Star Wars sin Star Trek (violence) beause we shouldn't want our neigbour to be beat up or killed even in fantasy.etc those were some of my former sins.Lusting over women on TV another. addiction, smoking, drinking, sport, football etc competing in sport is sin wanting to be better than someone else isn't being humble and it causes pride, hate, fear etc.Gambling sin be satisfied with what we have.
The devil has locked us in sin.But God Our Father is breaking me free, its taking time but no one can be a good christian with out learning patience.
If you seek God diligently he sends his power to you by and you change and be born again.
cast these nightmare evil spirits out in the name of Jesus (pride,vanity,lust.greed,selfishness,repent.
Through Fast and prayer and deliverence prayers
Fasting is a one of the most important ways to get the power of God
    for repenitance of sins.
Jesus and the apostles fasted as did John The Baptist and his apostles and Paul for this reason fasting is really hard the body and mind has to get used to starvation
    1 peter 4:1
Since christ suffered physially you too must strenghten yourselves with the same way of thinking that he had because whoever suffers physically is no longer involved with sin.I believe this is refering to fasting.
Only by fast and prayer do they go.2000 years ago they were all fasting OT Daniel as well,
i can testify that it is a major issue in my long journey to repenitance.I decided to become religious at the start of 2007.I've made many mistakes so far,but i learn from them and suffer for them whih teaches me to stop it the latest mistake was stop praying to God on my knee's God is a God of actions and this took away some of my humilty. But after changing from juice fasting to water fasting which is much harder (i have to work as well) i started praying on my knee's,this is what fasting does,it make us holy. And my nightmare biggest.curse of gluttonry and eating disorder is going as well i am overjoyed.still got work to do
the idea's and urges to do the will of God (phil 2:13)comes by fasting and praying,I also have to keep reading the bible when i slack off doing that i become weak spiritually.I can't fast for long periods yet though those 6 evil spirits of lust go to work (4 female)but i will be free soon with patience.
Fight the good fight of faith lay hold onto eternal life its a battle.
2 tim Resist the devil and he will flee.
The other thing i do is www.demonbusters.com but don't return these spirits to the senders like the people on the website do its repaying evil for evil we are not witchcraft workers.Love thy enemy
    remember what paul said
    Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against human opponents, but against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers in the darkness around us, and evil spiritual forces in the heavenly realm.(evil spirits)
Jesus said happy are those that hear the word and obey it.

If everything satan does has to go through God for permission, what about the garden of Eden and what happened with Adam and Eve?

Excellent response! This is true. We, as victors in Christ, have the final say over whether we allow the enemy ground in our lives.

Submit to God, and resist the devil.

Jas 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?
Jas 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
Jas 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

In God's order, Satan and the angels have a level of power and authority in the world, over everyone and everything that is not submitted to God.

(in authority) Man has been made a little lower than the angels, and even though Satan and some of the angels have fallen, God will not allow man (of himself) to usurp God given higher authority.

Therefore to overcome, we need to humble ourselves and submit to God (the Highest Authority) and resist the devil.

If we are not willing to recognise and submit to authority, then what hope or right do we think we have in exercising authority, even over our enemy?

Re: How much power does Satan have in our lives?

Hello brothers & sisters in Christ.....:bible

As Long As We Remain Faithful To God Satan Can Do Nothing That Will Override God’s Intention For Our Ultimate Good.

Remember Jesus’ warning to Peter that Satan had demanded permission to sift him like wheat? God granted the permission so that Peter could learn which part of him was really wheat and which was chaff.

Later, Peter would teach the Christians of his day with these words in 1 Peter 4:12:

"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing…."

God allows Satan to have at us sometimes to test us – that is, to show us where we really stand. But beyond this issue of testing, something else is in effect. We call it God’s providential care over us. Paul spoke of it clearly in Romans 8:28:

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."

That "all things" refers to both the seemingly "good" things that happen in our lives and the ones that seem for the moment to be "bad."

If we are truly God’s people, God will cause everything that happens to us to work together toward our ultimate, eternal good.

    Amen......
