    Olympic fever,or not...

The Olympic torch has just landed in Britain( in my county). It begins it's journey around the UK tomorrow morning. Everyone around me is so excited, my neighbors are like this .

The torch will pass my street a little after 9am, and it's a time to go video it, or even take a photo, but I just don't have the motivation, or the interest I guess.

What do you guys think? Should I have Olympic fever? If the torch was passing within a few hundred yards from your house, would you be out there watching?

Agreed! They've already cost us billions! Money would be better used elsewhere, but that's the way things go, I guess.

It's irresponsible especially in today's economy in Europe. That money would have been better spent rather than lining the IOC pockets just to hold the Olympics. They should all be jailed

I would because I'm a huge sports fan. But I do agree that this is costing the British to much in taxes. Around my neck of the woods, we just had an NFL team, threaten to leave if they didn't get a new stadium, and being a huge Viking fan I'm happy they are staying, but feel for though who don't care about football and have had their taxes raised.

I wonder what the revenue vs expenditure ratio is for a city or a geographical area that host the Olympics and I wonder how much profit it generates for the business in the area and the surrounding areas. I know that the IOC makes a ton of money from corporate advertisers.

As far as the games themselves go I haven't watched any part of the Olympics since I was a young kid. I have no interest in it or watching any of the games at all myself. I like the "Concept." I just think that the execution is lacking in most cases.
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

I don't know the details of these things, but I do know that the UK is 15billion pounds in debt because of it, and it's rising every day!!

I voted for Paris to have it. I can't see the Olympics in the UK being anything other than a national humiliation.

Since London's public transport system can't cope with unexpected events - you know, like people wanting to go home from work between 5-6pm - it's hard to see how it can possibly cope with the huge influx of extra people for the Olympics.
1Jn 4:1 NKJV Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1Th 5:21-22 NKJV Test all things; hold fast what is good. (22) Abstain from every form of evil.

Add to that the fact that the airports can barely cope with a normal summer season, never mind this one! The tightened security is already making travellers wait three and four hours to get through customs! The whole thing is just madness, spending money we can't afford.I know sometimes you need to spend money to make money, but this is a bit much.

I haven't paid attention to the Olympics since the original Dream Team with Magic, Bird, Jordan, etc. Personally, I wouldn't mind if the United States never hosted another Olympics again. Less tax payer money spent.

No Olympic fever here. I have not cared for the games since they removed steroids from competition. I enjoyed watching the huge U.S.S.R. weight lifters do super human feats.
