Love is truth. Hate is a lie.
Love is truth. Hate is a lie.

Christians are going to be persecuted.
But, then again, buttheads are persecuted.
Most times a butthead Christian can't tell the difference.
Just sayin'
That's clear, isn't it? It doesn't mean I hate the sinner. It doesn't mean I hate an arrogant proud in your face heathen either. How can I pray for my enemy if I hate my enemy? I'll try and make my point, clarify my thought though an example. You've read the past few threads about Christian support for legalizing the term "marriage" to apply to same-sex unions. The reasoning is on the surface anyway, that a couple in such a union has access to certain benefits given by default to a husband-wife union.
Ok, let's say that a Christiian (out of a sense of compassion and fairness in their own mind) support this legalization. Let's say that Christian reasons that opposing such a law would increase the odds that those people would shy away from Christ and His teachings.
I'll put myself in the shoes of a Chrisitan who supports the term "marriage" to be legally attached to same sex unions. Isn't the heart of a Christian love? Is a Chrisitan's most important priority for others eternal salvation, or earthly rewards? By supporting the term "marriage" to be applied to same-sex unions, isn't a Chrisitan supporting an earthly reward at the cost of eternal life? How would I pray for the salvation of a gay individual if I just supported his/her union to another person of the same sex? Wouldn't the answer to my prayer cause the divorce of those two people? Do I want to find myself in a Spiritual dilemma of supporting a sinful lifestyle, then praying for divorce (in essence)? How much harder will it be for a same-sex couple to give up their earthly reward (social security, medical bene's etc.) for Christ if we allow the lie to perpetuate by supporting it?
Sin never contains itself to the sinner. The consequences of any sin permeate society and undermine it's structure. To say that supporting sin just because unbelievers are not to be judged is ignoring all those consequences.
My generation is probably the last generation who can say they have it better than their fathers. From this point forward, we can't build a better life for our children, give them more opportunity than we had. We are in decline. Economically, socially, and morally. I get that. But to support it as a believer, I'm sorry, I can't do that. I can't hate the sinner so much that I support the legitimization of his/her sin.
As far as benefits go, anyone should be allowed to choose anyone to bestow their own personal life and benefits to. I don't know why that should be tied to marriage in the first place.

We are to be good stewards. Not indifferent.
Especially the legacy we leave to our children.
Unhappy is he who mistakes the branch for the tree, the shadow for the substance.

I don't see any basis to your accusation.
And I have also spent a few years defending your right also. 98CLRU. Is your boasting aimed at impressing me in some way?

Ahem. Sorry to interrupt, but, does anybody have an opinion as to whether we should reduce the ten commandments to the last six? I mean, you, know, since that was the original point and all. Is there any possible thought or concept that cannot be turned into the gay marriage debate? Come on, folks. Start another thread.
When we stand before the Judgment Seat, we will have retained only two things from our earthly life: what God gave us, and what we did with what He gave us.
The thread has run its intended course...time to close it.
God happens!
